Job Description
This role will be accountable for ensuring correct ongoing valuation of all derivatives within the organization as well as providing risk reporting on these positions to internal business users. The candidate must be pro-active, assertive, organized and highly professional. The candidate will have a combination of derivatives industry experience, management experience, valuation experience, and practical business insight.
Responsibilities:
• Manage the Derivatives Valuation team of 3 Derivatives Valuation Analysts
• Work closely with portfolio managers and front office to assess requirements of valuing new and existing derivatives positions
• Interface with Models and Analytics team and Derivatives Operations team to implement new curves and models in pricing system
• Conduct risk testing and scenario analysis for internal business units
• Monitor and report derivatives positions to satisfy regulatory requirements
• Develop and maintain controls to ensure derivatives are valued correctly in the system
• Reconcile mark-to-market differences with the counterparty and communicate issues to Collateral and Investment Risk teams
• Work with the Derivatives Solutions team to support the setup of technology to facilitate trading of new derivative product types
• Take ownership of side projects to enhance risk controls and reporting
• Continuously evaluate, identify and recommend practices and controls that will increase process efficiency and mitigate financial and operational risks
• Perform the assignments above for both the General Accounts and Manulife Asset Management
• Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
• Relevant undergraduate education or advanced degree
• Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Mathematical Finance, etc. required
• Minimum 3-5 years of relevant industry experience with at least 2-3 years of hands-on experience in derivative products
• Familiarity with derivative instruments including repos, forwards, futures, listed and OTC options, FX, Swap Options, OTC swaps and centrally cleared swaps (interest rate, cross-currency and total return)
• Familiarity with derivatives trading and collateral agreements such as Clearing Agreements, Give-Ups, ISDA/CSAs
• Advanced knowledge of derivatives valuation models such as Black Scholes and Hull White
• Familiarity with MS Office suite
• Ability to code in VBA or other languages an asset
• Solid organizational skills and a high degree of professionalism combined with the ability to readily adapt to rapidly changing environments and deal with competing priorities
• Team player with demonstrated experience building and maintaining good working relationships both internally and externally
• Ability to manage a geographically distributed team of analysts
• Excellent analytical skills and the ability to think through problems, assess a variety of factors and recommend solutions
