Deposit Operations Exception Specialist
Location Main Office (Jackson, MI)
Job Summary
The Deposit Operations Exception Specialist is responsible for supporting 150+ retail banking branches and their customers with vital functions along with constant focus on meeting daily production deadlines. Job responsibilities include processing of back office teller transactions and the review of daily NSF fee assessment reports. This position will process maintenance and transaction requests using judgment and analytical skills in ensuring the processes meet our compliance and regulatory procedures. They will handle the processing and review of returned deposited items (RDIs), foreign checks, including providing branch approval to process foreign checks, escalated Large Dollar review, deposit automation escalated review, and inclearing rejected items review. These are critical and timely daily processes that must be completed in Deposit Operations.
Job Responsibilities:
• Processing Exceptions - Reviews daily reports to verify NSF fee assessments, inclearing returns and reverses fees or charges fees whenever appropriate. Research of various items for offages with files for overall balancing of bank branches.
• Transactions - Processes internal teller transactions and processes returned deposited items. Review file load errors for check transactions and exceptions processing.
• Reporting & Imaging - Reviews daily reports to verify balancing functions and procedures are completed. Images all paper audit trail documentation for the department daily.
• Communicates effectively with immediate supervisor on all important department matters and developments. Includes responding to questions from internal departments and leadership regarding department activities. Notifies branches and leadership of any teller processing errors needing attention.
• Ensures compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations. Completes all required compliance training. Maintains knowledge of and adhere to Flagstar’s internal compliance policies and procedures. Takes responsibility to keep up to date with changing regulations and policies.
Job Requirements:
• High School diploma, GED, or foreign equivalent required.
• Associates degree in a related field is strongly desired (i.e. business management, finance, or accounting).
• 3+ years banking operations or branch banking experience required.
• DNA and Accounting experience helpful.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organization and prioritization skills with close attention to detail.
• Solid interpersonal skills, ability to work collectively in team environment and across multiple business units.
• Strong problem solving skills, proactive and solution oriented.
• Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks quickly and proficiently.
• Demonstrated ability to work with customer information in a confidential and professional manner.
• Moderate skill level with Microsoft Office including MS Word, MS Excel and PowerPoint.
• 5%travel to the Troy Headquarters location.
• The job requires a moderate degree of physical exertion and stamina such as standing, sitting, walking, driving or infrequent lifting. Extensive periods of sitting.
