The Investment Analyst must be able to utilize their creative thinking capabilities, knowledge of the financial and capital markets along with their ability to analyze detailed and complex investment data to build, develop and present customized analysis and conclusions to Investment Managers, IM&T management and other key professionals. Each Investment Analyst is responsible for their area of focus including equity, fixed income, mutual funds, and cash flow planning.
Major Responsibilities:
(40%) Investment Related:
• Work with IM&T Portfolio Managers and senior management to identify and evaluate scenarios, solutions, and assist in the implementation and monitoring of clients' investment strategies.
• Work with Portfolio Managers to identify and evaluate investment solutions and assist them with performance attribution and risk-return, style, holdings, and exposure analysis.
• Support the non-portfolio management service requirements of Portfolio Managers, key clients, senior leadership and internal partners.
• Develop, distribute and present general internal and external client communication pieces.
(30%) Analytical and Creative Thinking Creatively solves complex challenges and analyzes complicated matters.
• Maintains strong knowledge of the financial and capital markets.
• Analyzes detailed and complex investment data necessary to build, develop and present customized analysis and conclusions to Portfolio Managers.
(15%) Special Projects:
• Project management skills including the ability to work independently and manage multiple projects with a large volume of investment data and tight deadlines.
• Must be able to establish priorities, goals, and measure progress.
• Provide high level analytics and thought leadership to the senior managers of IM&T.
• Capable of pursuing multiple goals and projects simultaneously, while fostering a cooperative, collaborative, and positive work environment.
• Ability to understand complex issues, provide solutions, and recognize the potential impact to the organization.
(10%) Risk Management:
• Responsibility for all fiduciary and SEC compliance requirements.
• Actively ensure compliance with Union Bank's and HighMark's Code of Ethics.
• Participate in any required corporate and business line training in these areas.
(5%) Office Related Tasks
• Performs various office related tasks, such as distributing reports; operate and maintain office machines; photocopying materials; mailing correspondence; manual and electronic filing of client documentation; preparing documents for imaging; ordering supplies, and general office administration.
• Improves skill set annually by completing targeted training.
Qualifications
Education, Licensure, Year of Experience (and type of work experience):
• 7+ years of investment industry experience.
• Bachelor’s degree required. An MBA/CFA/CFP preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
• Attention to detail, accuracy, and producing high quality work, while maintaining focus on significant issues without getting bogged down is important.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, including the ability to effectively package and communicate information at the senior executive level.
• Advanced system skills are required with near-expert level understanding of Microsoft Office.
• Strong practical knowledge of financial markets and the firm's business, products, and services, including experience with both institutional and retail clients is required.
• Possess sound analytical skills, superior judgment, and ability to function autonomously, while anticipating the data reporting and presentation needs of the Portfolio Managers.
• Knowledge of Bloomberg and/or other securities trading systems strongly desired.
• Proficiency with full Microsoft Office Suite products (i.e Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
• Knowledge of trust accounting systems and/or trust administration is desired.
