Job Description
SUMMARY: The Learning and Development Manager oversees and coordinates the design, branding and implementation of training in the areas of On-Boarding, New Hire, Operations, Customer Service, Sales, Leadership and Business Banking for Retail Banking and other lines of business as required. The Learning and Development Manager is responsible for the development of curriculum which will lead to building individual job skills and competencies needed to execute business strategy and strengthen the BankUnited workforce. The Learning and Development Manager will manage a team of Training Specialists to deliver strategies and initiatives by setting appropriate direction. The position works closely with all other areas of the Risk and Advisory Management Department to ensure the appropriate areas are covered from training perspective. In addition, the Learning and Development Manager works closely with Retail Management, Bank Operations, Compliance, Business Banking, Audit, Corporate Security and other business lines to develop and maintain comprehensive training courses.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Additional responsibilities may be assigned.
• Confers with management and conducts surveys to identify training needs based on projected production processes, changes, and other factors.
• Analyzes training needs to develop new training programs or modify and improve existing programs.
• Implements or enhances curricula based on changing business needs and industry trends.
• Works with subject matter experts in the development of training objectives and design outlines.
• Develops and executes training budget and expense tracking. Creates defined travel guidelines for participants incurring expenses related to attending training sessions. Monitors and approves expenses incurred by Retail Facilitators traveling to deliver training sessions across all markets.
• Ensures all established costs, quality, and delivery commitments are met.
• Plans, develops, and provides ongoing training and staff development programs, using knowledge of the effectiveness of methods such as classroom training, E-Learning, Web sessions, demonstrations, on-the-job training, meetings, conferences, and workshops.
• Makes recommendations on delivery methods and content requirements for specialized training initiatives as a result of a Project Management proposal or implementation of new or enhanced systems.
• Assigns projects to department employees to ensure requests for training are determined and timing of delivery becomes a part of the universal training calendar.
• Consults with other departments on the development of reference documentation.
• Oversees testing metrics and evaluation procedures that measure content, facilitator delivery and on-the-job functionality. Ensures the training that employees are receiving and related assessments are validated for fairness and effectiveness.
• Analyzes data, using statistical methods and applications, in order to evaluate the outcomes and effectiveness of workplace programs.
• Designs training curriculum for all jobs and links learning needs to competency requirements.
• Evaluates instructor performance and the effectiveness of training programs, providing recommendations for improvement.
• Compiles regular and special reports as required by Retail Administration Support Management, BankUnited Executive Management and government regulations.
• Facilitates organizational development and change.
• Analyzes and organizes department operations and procedures. Oversee day-to-day functionality of Learning Centers throughout BankUnited Retail footprint to ensure classroom experience meets BankUnited culture and standards. (E.g. Systems, Functionality, Operations, etc.)
• Conducts staff meetings of department's personnel, or confers with subordinate personnel to discuss departmental problems or explain procedural changes or practices, when applicable.
• Develops or revises standard operational and working practices and observes and encourages employees to ensure compliance with standards.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of a department. May supervise function, projects or services and/or one or more employees, as applicable. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelors Degree in a related fields and a minimum of ten years of banking related experience. Equivalent combination of education and Training and Development Management experience may be considered. Masters degree preferred. Knowledge of principles and methods of curriculum and training design, adult learning theories, and the measurement of training effectiveness. Understands e-Learning systems, how to utilize technology and integrate into the BankUnited learning culture.
