This is a high impact role for a passionate data manager and delivery specialist to provide technical, tactical, and strategic guidance to the team responsible for the design, roll-out, and uptime of the bank’s enterprise data systems. The Enterprise Data Services director will lead a growing team of data experts who transform data into useful information improving the processes, work flow, and data operations within the bank. The position will report to Chief Data Officer managing people, projects and processes that empower the organization to use data more effectively to drive strategy and decision making. The candidate for this role should be confident leading highly technical teams in all facets of information management disciplines. The candidate must be able to successfully operate in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment, handle multiple competing project priorities, support information-based decision logic, communicate with senior stakeholders and develop and cultivate a team.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems or related discipline.
• 7+ years of experience designing and developing databases in MS SQL Server technology stack and/or managing teams focused on information management delivery with Microsoft technologies
• 3+ years of experience managing successful delivery of data projects in a leadership role.
• Understanding of VMWare environments and how to apply virtualization best practices to SQL Server systems
• Experience helping support day to day project decisions in areas of data architecture, data warehousing, quality control, data governance, BI development applications and industrializing analytic processes
• Advanced skills or knowledge in PowerShell scripting and other data automation techniques
• Experience implementing master data services, metadata solutions, and data quality programs into the data environment. Azure or similar cloud based experience a plus.
• Experience with Alteryx Self-Service Data Prep software developing workflows and deploying apps
• Accountable for design and development of delivery plans, resource allocation and communication of releases into the data environment.
• Strong people management and development experience with a track record of getting others to execute efficiently towards a common and understood goal.
• Ability to lead and develop a team of DBAs and data engineers to execute on the data strategy across risk management, finance, operations, sales, marketing and other business functions.
• Excellent project management skills; able to co-ordinate multiple tasks and make sure work output of others is delivered on-time and accurately
• Support the day to day technical execution required to service the business including development, review and sign-off of project documents, design decisions and support the team on individual requests where required.
• Continue to develop and iterate on a more efficient and accurate data delivery lifecycle.
• Assures team compliance with regulatory and privacy requirements.
• Participate in all required compliance training, including Bank Secrecy Act/anti-money laundering training, as well as internal and external training programs, online training, meetings, and seminars/conferences, etc.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
Administration
• Accountable and responsible for the delivery of data projects by working closely with portfolio manager and project management to ensure projects are scoped, planned, resourced and delivered on-time and in accordance with specifications.
• Lead the team on production incidents for engagement, restoration of services, root cause analysis, improvement and corrective actions to full resolution of incidents.
• Track work projects in Jira or similar tool, task progress and the development activities of the Data Services team in order to manage capacity and resource availability.
• Develop, review, and maintain design and implementation standards for database development that may include agile or waterfall design patterns.
• Lead interactions with internal and external parties such as Audit, Compliance, Information Security, and Risk Management to ensure the team’s processes and methods are compliant with policy, standards, and regulatory expectations.
Design
• Work with team to design procedures for deploying and migrating databases and systems between environments (Dev/Test/Prod, as well as different datacenters).
• Work with data engineers to develop scripts and stored procedures for configuration checks, automation, monitoring, and testing.
• Develop standard methods and patterns for how the data services team develops, tests, and implements data solutions.
• Drive creativity in database design and architecture to meet customer needs.
Analysis
• Work with internal and external architects to develop database designs to implement high-performance reporting, including standard relational databases, dimensional reporting systems, and Analysis Services cubes.
• Work with team to document and implement plans of action.
Maintenance
• Implement version control for database objects and design documentation.
• Coordinate testing and distribution of upgrades with UCBI IT support teams.
• Monitor the data environment for configuration drift (using tools such as Tripwire, automation scripting using PowerShell and Pester).
Security
• Implement secure user access based on recognized standards and methods
• Implement and maintain database security models to mitigate information security risks
• Monitor and audit database security for compliance with policies and regulations
• Implement security hardening procedures published by DBA’s and the Information Security department
• Other duties as assigned
