Position Summary
This executive level position will lead and manage all aspects of visual & interaction design, research, and content strategy for all Bank of the West digital properties. The position will report directly to the Head of Digital Channels, within the Retail Banking Group. This role is responsible for defining both the short and long term design strategy for the Bank’s flagship digital properties in order to increase customer engagement as well frictionless experiences. The role will indirectly be responsible for reduction in physical consumer interactions, and increasing digital.
The Head of Design is an executive role within the Retail banking Group, driving one of the most influential groups within the Bank and will have significant exposure across the enterprise, including the CEO. We are looking for a leader who is capable of reimaging our design practice and will inspire and influence design thought leadership across the enterprise. This role will be responsible for reshaping the design thinking and artifacts. The role has a team of 22+.
The incumbent will establish clear design strategy and guidelines, with particular emphasis on developing new artifacts and guidelines. This is a strategic role that also requires the ability to shift into the details. This position works closely with the Marketing, Technology, and Product. The role will also partner closely with the project management office, channel administration, channel sales leadership, and technology organization and key stakeholders. This leader will also be tasked with driving cultural change throughout the enterprise.
Key Responsibilities
• Create, define, and manage user experience and design strategy, focusing on visual interaction design
• Responsible for reimagining current design artifacts, including design standards, content, and processes
• Develop fact based, quantitative analysis to support recommendations and ensure strategic vision is accomplished
• Promote agile and inclusive methodology into all aspects of design activities
• Leverage design principles to accomplish business objectives, including product growth, profitability, and customer engagement
• Responsible for support and design accountability across the organization including: Retail, Wealth, Small Medium Enterprise, Cash Management, and Personal Finance
• Partner with senior line management to ensure business objectives are being met through refined design practices
• Leverage best in class design tools and applications and ensuring team and collaborators are up to date on industry technology
• Manage vendor relationships, contract negotiation and financials with any third parties
• Manage and lead a team directly and through subordinate managers, including selection, performance management, and resource allocation
• Maintain relationships with other senior executives in areas that may impact user experience or design
