Position Summary
The HR Business Partner plays an important role in the organization by performing a number of activities related to the company’s Human Resources functions. The role is primarily responsible, under general to intermittent supervision, for providing day-to-day support on a variety of employee relations issues. The HR Business Partner supplies policy interpretation, information gathering and resolution of issues consistent with the company’s model of employment policies and practices, supplying advice and support to resolve complaints, concerns and other employee issues.
Essential Functions
• Work collaboratively with and provide day-to-day coaching and advice to managers and other assigned employees in standard/regular areas of employee relations, performance management, and policy interpretation.
• Conduct internal investigations; document findings and make recommendations to management as appropriate.
• Interview parties involved in claims/allegations, work with and obtain guidance from outside Counsel, close out report with thorough written documentation reflecting results of findings.
• Draft employee corrective action, performance improvement, and termination documentation for assigned employees.
• Design and facilitate performance management.
• Maintain good communication and positive relations with employees to promote employee satisfaction; aim to support employee satisfaction, retention, and overall company competitiveness.
• Administer the involuntary employee exit process for assigned employees when needed.
• Coach and build the capabilities of managers to handle employee relations issues/concerns.
• Maintain the ER file system regarding discipline, grievances, terminations, settlement and release agreements, etc.
• Partner with other departments such as Payroll and Compliance on policies (interpretation and parameters in which to function); other areas of HR, such as Benefits on LOA’s and ESS on un-cleared background checks.
• Provide monthly training for management in Crucial Conversations.
• Monitor workplace trends, policies, procedures and practices and make recommendations to proactively address potential risks and opportunities to enhance workforce performance.
• Stay current on employment law and employment law trends; provide recommendations for policy or proactive updates accordingly.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent required, Bachelor’s degree preferred, along with a minimum of five years directly related experience in the full spectrum of Employee Relations matters in multi-state, multi-site organization(s).
• Moderate level of proficiency with data entry, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.
• General knowledge and familiarity using HRMS systems and HR data, preferably with UltiPro.
• Prior experience working the mortgage industry or financial services preferred.
• Strong knowledge of state and federal employment laws.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills; strong editor and proofreader.
• Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
• Strong detail orientation.
• Ability to deliver exceptional and supportive internal customer service and build relationships with employees who may be experiencing high levels of stress.
• Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, metrics-driven environment
• Must be able to handle confidential matters with discretion.
• Ethical, with a commitment to company values.
Supervision
• Intermittent to low supervision required, depending on experience
• Apply sound judgment in execution of core job responsibilities
• Travel: 0 - 5%
Requirements
Physical: Work is primarily sedentary; mobility in an office setting.
Manual Dexterity: Frequent use of computer keyboard and mouse.
Audio/Visual: Ability to accurately interpret sounds and associated meanings at a volume consistent with interpersonal conversation. Regularly required to accurately perceive, distinguish and interpret information received visually and through audio; e.g., words, numbers and other data broadcasted aloud/viewed on a screen, as well as print and other media.
Environmental: Office environment – no substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
