Position Summary
Exercises independent discretion or judgment in handling all types of weather event related material damage claims. Responsible for completing vehicle damage estimates and total loss evaluations on Material Damage claims. Assists assigned field office when not on catastrophe deployment in handling day to day material damage claims.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Is a the first responder on the Catastrophe Team; will be the initial rapidly deployed workforce to the affected area which will require travel on short notice for extended periods of time.
• Obtains and maintains necessary adjuster licensing for all states ERIE conducts business in.
• Establishes immediate contact with Policyholders regarding their catastrophe loss. Conducts investigations, inspects damage and prepares estimates. Evaluates and makes recommendations regarding coverage of claims.
• Makes arrangements with repair shops, Policyholders or claimants to inspect vehicles. Photographs damaged areas and writes estimates on all claims when necessary. Determines rental needs and controls costs according to company guidelines.
• Establishes value and settles total losses, disposes of salvage and keeps related records.
• Distinguishes cause of damage for appropriate policy coverage.
• Issues settlement checks and keeps appropriate records.
• Responsible for the monthly operational maintenance of the Sprinter Van attached to the office where the CAT adjuster is domiciled.
• Assists assigned field office as necessary when not on Catastrophe Duty. Substitutes for Material Damage Adjusters, as required, as a result of staffing issues or other absences to ensure ERIE's service philosophy is maintained.

Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required. Five years of previous experience in material damage, preferably with ERIE, including strong technical knowledge of vehicle repair and total loss evaluation, or equivalent, required. Previous body shop experience preferred. Successful completion of Associate in Claims (AIC) program preferred. Proficiency with estimating systems and claims management system required. Willingness to obtain and maintain appraiser licensing for all states that require within ERIE's geography. Valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Daily travel, including overnight stays away from home, required. Position requires the incumbent to serve on the Catastrophe Team, which will include travel on short notice to other locations for periods in excess of two consecutive weeks.
