Job Purpose (Job Summary):
The Media Relations Director is a primary media and public relations strategist responsible for developing and implementing plans and tactics to communicate corporate themes in a consistent and timely manner to the media or other external audiences. The position primarily supports Invesco’s identified investment teams as well as the firm’s products and services. This role includes responsibility for PowerShares by Invesco, Invesco’s leading ETF product line. The Director will develop and recommend to senior management and/or investment management personnel strategic external communications objectives, policies and procedures to further the broad communication objectives of the company. It includes advising senior officers of the company on all matters concerning media and public relations, and providing effective communications to a variety of constituencies, including customers and international/national/local news media.
Key Responsibilities / Duties:
• Develop and implement a corporate media and public relations plan
• Promote a favorable public reputation of the company’s positive performance, accomplishments and investment products and services to external constituencies and audiences, mainly through the news media
• Develop and maintain productive and positive relationships with the industry and general consumer news media
• Develop strategies to respond to major public issues that impact supported business lines
• Keep senior business leaders fully apprised of new trends and issues affecting the industry
• Participate in the planning and organizing of the corporate crisis management program and process
• When applicable, effectively manage outside consultants, partners and vendors.
Qualifications
Work Experience / Knowledge:
• 8+ years directly related work experience in media relations/corporate communications
• Experience within Investment Management for Financial Services Industry strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of various investment products preferred.
Skills / Other Personal Attributes Required:
• Developing and executing communications strategies and tactics to support the company’s marketing and overall business objectives
• A significant level of experience in corporate communications, media/public relations or journalism with an emphasis on financial markets
• Experience in the development and implementation of media/public relations programs
• Managing press relations and supporting other corporate communications functions in a flat, team oriented organization
• Ability to manage professional and support staff members effectively
• Appropriately advise senior-level corporate executives
• Experience with technologies that enable the organization to create a seamless internal global communications network
• The ability to work and be an integral part of an action-oriented decision-making working team
• Strong oral and written communications skills and the ability to be articulate and persuasive
• Able to establish clear priorities and meet deadlines
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and handle multiple projects simultaneously

Formal Education:

Working Conditions:
• Normal office environment with little exposure to noise, dust and temperatures.
• The ability to lift, carry or otherwise move objects of up to 10 pounds is also necessary.
• Normally works a regular schedule of hours, however hours may vary depending upon the project or assignment.
• Hours may include evenings and/or weekends and may include 24 hour a day on call support by pager and/or cell phone.
