This role will report into Global Vendor Risk Oversight (VRO) at American Express within the Global Risk and Compliance organization. VRO is responsible for minimizing regulatory and operational risk vulnerabilities by effectively overseeing AXP vendor controls. The team is responsible to ensure monitoring mechanisms are effective, efficient and nimble to prudently balance enterprise risk with business growth. Vendor risk includes external third-parties as well as relationships between American Express regulated subsidiary legal entities and their internal affiliates.
A strong background in analytics and reporting, analyzing risks and controls, as well as experience with risk management activities is essential. The candidate should have a working knowledge of vendor risk management. As a Senior Manager responsible for analyzing Third Party data, this individual should have a proven business acumen to effectively comprehend and communicate disparate risk data points that represent a composite Third Party risk level. This individual should have demonstrated success with conflict-management and influencing change. This role is a vital part of the Operational Risk Oversight team, and will be held accountable for identifying opportunities, building consensus, and driving the business forward.
Key Responsibilities and Requirements:
• Contribute to and implement a global strategy, methodology, process and governance framework for all reporting aspects of Vendor Risk Oversight
• Provide business unit management data insights regarding vendor risk management control issues and help guide others to see a global view of risk in this area
• Provide clear, concise and objective guidance to management and appropriate committees
• Work with team to evaluate and identify the operating models that offer the best view of risks and key drivers for achieving strategic objectives
• Implement a continuous process improvement mentality
• Ensure appropriate measurement, evaluation, reporting and governance exists for risk taking activities
• Contribute to a culture where prompt identification, communication and resolution of problems are recognized and rewarded
• Be an effective advocate and spokesperson for the enterprise on risk issues and risk management strategies
• Promote an environment that supports transparency and key risk-return objectives
• Maintain positive working relationships with key regulators and other external constituents
• Develop deep and productive working relationship with the key partners in Compliance, Global Business Services, General Counsel's Office and First Line risk functions
• Promote effective teamwork with supporting functional areas and business units
Qualifications
• Recognized risk advocate, who is a dynamic, proactive and decisive person
• 3+ years of information management experience
• Adapts well to and initiates change in the organization
• Proven ability to drive others toward high productivity and sustained performance
• Excellent and motivational communicator with the ability to understand and communicate linkages across initiatives and risk disciplines
• Strong intuitive skills in understanding the enterprise implications of the risks inherent in products, transactions, and processes
• Strong decision making skills and personal conviction
• Demonstrated willingness to take initiative and act decisively
• 5+ years of operational risk experience
• Prior experience with Third Party Risk Management a plus
• Experience manipulating large data sets
• Undergraduate degree required
