Role Context – Product Strategy and Solutions Team
The Product Strategy and Solutions Team (PS&S) is responsible for harnessing the knowledge and expertise across Aberdeen Standard Investments (ASI) to drive product strategy and develop solutions across Private Markets, Liquid Asset Classes and Outcome-based strategies. This incorporates driving product innovation in partnership with the relevant investment and distribution teams.
Role Summary:
• Institutional channel expert delivering institutionally-relevant, outcome-oriented investment solutions across multiple asset classes in the institutional client channel in the Americas region.
• To drive the build-out of Liability Driven Investment products and solutions in the Americas. Develop a Liability-Driven Investing (LDI) roadmap that includes robust capacity planning and pricing strategy, developed in conjunction with the global LDI roadmap.
• Support the research, design and embedding of institutional client solutions though ongoing external engagement with clients/consultants and strong internal collaboration across functions.
• Design holistic bespoke investment propositions to meet clients’ strategic investment objectives, specifically related to Liability-Driven Investing. Create Liability-Driven Investment and risk management solutions in both pooled and segregated form.
• Carry out asset/liability analysis of institutional plan sponsors - examining actuarial valuation reports and related information. Participate in development over time of Delegated Investment Authority (fiduciary management) business.
• Ensure ASI is an industry leader in innovation through anticipating industry, market and client trends and developing creative solutions that solve their problems.
• Capture and share regional knowledge through a program of strategic engagement with key internal & external stakeholders. Act as key client interface and internal coordination point for the research, design and embedding of new products and bespoke client solutions.
• Contribute to thought leadership agenda covering both written collateral and external speaking events.
• Represent the full capabilities of the firm in external engagement to facilitate the modelling and structuring of product-based solutions and bespoke client-based solutions.
• Support the Distribution team pre- and post-implementation as required with production or analysis of complex requests for information, and as a consulting/advisory function for clients.
• Champion commercial objectivity and prioritization of opportunities to deliver timely and robust implementation of client solutions through close working relationships with other areas of Global Product.
Typical Qualifications/Skills
• FSA or MAAA; CFA or appropriate equivalent
Role specific skills & knowledge
• Strong knowledge of the US institutional market and recent trends in risk management solutions for pension schemes with experience and understanding of client’s governance framework and their funding objectives gained ideally in a consultant environment.
• Deep technical understanding of investments, institutional clients’ requirements, risks, liability structures and legal & regulatory developments.
• Strong quantitative skills, including the ability to understand and translate asset and liability modelling, and design liability matching strategies.
• In depth knowledge and extensive experience of relevant investment capabilities and products, thus enabling high level detailed discussions with key strategic investors and stakeholders.
• A detailed knowledge of key US institutional competitors and the competitive environment
• Ability to build and nurture strong relationships across the industry at a senior level
• Excellent interpersonal and communications and presentation skills

Asset class strategy & research
• Foster an innovative environment through insight, inclusion and collaboration.

• Drive an external engagement agenda to capture channel-specific insights to feed innovation discussions.
• Partner with relevant investment, distribution, and product management teams to produce an innovation roadmap for cross-asset and liability-aware products and solutions.
Design & test
• Input to the design of the broad investment proposition, including the development and translation of client specific guidelines and objectives.
• Act as sponsor/advocate for prioritized new concepts in internal and external meetings.
• Partner with Product Development to ensure robust and timely implementation.
• Ensure new products/solutions deliver clear value propositions, are appropriately differentiated, and are positioned and priced for maximum commercial success.
• Ensure new concepts are appropriately tested with target end clients, and other appropriate market participants, with feedback reflected in redesign.
Embed & inform
• Ensure new products are embedded into the business through a program of internal and external activity.
• Partner with distribution and use key external relationships to secure seed capital, or early backer investments that deliver critical mass to new products. Ensure appropriate commercial terms are agreed and communicated to facilitate this process.
• Support and partner with Distribution Specialists to put in place a range of internal education sessions on new products and strategies. Represent products externally to support Distribution efforts.
• Drive the thought leadership agenda that positions new strategies - through written collateral and/or external speaking engagements.
• Ensure high quality collateral is available that represents the full breadth and strength of capabilities.
