Job Summary:
The Senior Platform Developer for Market Regulation Technology works to integrate FINRA’s Dynamic Surveillance Platform into the rest of FINRA systems and technologies we use the surveil the US Equities, Fixed Income and Options Markets. The Dynamic Surveillance Platform is the common development platform for data science and engineering at FINRA. As a Senior Platform Developer, you will look for any opportunity to enhance and extend our next generation surveillance platform in the cloud based on open source tools (Apache Spark and AWS).
Essential Job Functions:
• Review and analyze complex process, system and/or data requirements and specifications.
• Serve as the primary designer for complex component designs for one or more areas (subsystems) of a project, product or program.
• Build, test, deploy, and document complex software components for one or more areas (subsystems) of a project, product, and/or program level solution.
• Assist in the creation of software engineering strategies that help identify and mitigate risks.
• Lead other team members in peer review of code.
• Interface with other team members and other teams in peer review of requirements, specifications and software.
• Document and communicate development status in a timely manner including metric reporting.
• Lead/Co-lead internal process improvement initiatives. Provide feedback on processes by offering suggestions.
• Mentor and supervise junior staff in project-level tasks.
• Assist with adherence to technology policies and comply with all security controls.
• Ensure all work products meets /exceeds FINRA standards.
Other Responsibilities:
• Collaborate closely with the Framework Librarian to identify and develop new components of the Feature Framework
• Enhance and maintain the pattern development systems and platform
• Maintain the Feature Framework (Feature Library)
• Spark integration with FINRA meta-data store (herd)
• Develop libraries to make surveillances easier to develop and maintain
• Ensure the library functions as enhancements appear in Spark and new features are added to the library
• Integrate the Dynamic Surveillance Platform with other FINRA IT Systems, Examples: integration with job scheduler, central logging and AWS services
Qualifications
Education/Experience Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related discipline with at least five (5) years of related experience, or equivalent training and / or work experience.
• 2-3 years’ experience with Python for systems integration work (Linux scripting knowledge is assumed)
• 2-3 years’ experience with Java and/or Scala library development and builds (including maven)
• Experience with Big Data platforms (Spark preferred)
• Knowledge of Amazon AWS services (especially EMR, EC2, ECS, S3, boto/boto3)
Working Conditions:
• Work is normally performed in an office environment.
• Occasional travel and extended hours may be required.
