Responsible for ensuring that branch and remote underwriters are fully trained in the proper application of the company’s lending guidelines. This includes oversight of individual underwriter performance with the goal of achieving optimum productivity output while maintaining or exceeding loan quality and customer service standards.
Essential Job Functions
• Demonstrated ability to represent the Underwriting Wholesale Channel on Enterprise Projects.
• Measures the development and performance of the underwriting staff
• Develop a system to monitor those metrics and to track actual performance against those metrics
• Develops and manages reporting as it relates to service levels, quality, production
• Provide regular reporting to management on overall credit quality and loan performance on key metrics
• Work closely with Sales leadership and provide sales support
• Pipeline management and oversight
• Performance and process improvement
• Reviews and addresses customer complaints
• Clear training programs and success metrics to allow individual underwriters to expand their levels of underwriting authority
• Develop methods to increase the consistency and quality of loan decisions on all loan products
• Establish a monthly feedback process that provides consistent, meaningful feedback to underwriters on underwriting related issues found in pre- and post-fund audits and reviews
• Identify and develop a successor to this role
• Provide leadership within the organization on all matters related to credit quality
• Ensure that the company’s lending culture is clearly understood
• Participate as a mentor to other leaders within the organization, when asked to do so
• Serve as a role model for peers and associates by acting with integrity and in a positive manner at all times
• Coordinate with Post Funding Department to assure the salability of all loans originated or purchased
• Monitor pipeline and other reports for the purpose of identifying negative operational trends or potential loan quality, performance and/or customer service issues
• Develop, implement, monitor and report on internal quality control initiatives, initiating corrective action when necessary
• Serve as a role model of the company’s values, acting in an ethical and professional manner in all respects
Requirements:
• Demonstrated leadership qualities with the ability to provide vision and inspiration to peers and others
• A thorough knowledge of FHA/VA regulations and FNMA/FHLMC and investor underwriting guidelines
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner
• Deep understanding of the sourcing, fulfillment and quality control activities necessary to produce high quality, salable, well-performing residential mortgage loans
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) programs
• Ability to articulate a clear vision for how the efforts within this area will support the broader strategic vision for the company
• Strong organizational skills

• 10-15 years in the mortgage banking industry including experience in underwriting, processing and closing
