Position: AVP – Privacy Office
Department: The MetLife Corporate Privacy Office (MCPO) of Corporate Ethics and Compliance is a central oversight team responsible for the design, maintenance and oversight of the global privacy compliance program for the MetLife enterprise.
The Role: This Assistant Vice President position reports directly to the Chief Privacy Officer. You will have 5 direct reports. Supporting the Chief Privacy Officer, you will be responsible for; managing the day to day operations of the MCPO, interpreting, implementing and updating global compliance policies (especially in response to global regulatory developments. ) In addition, you will be responsible for devising and implementing strategies to further the ongoing maturity of MetLife’s global privacy compliance program; conducting and communicating enterprise-wide risk assessments; and leading global privacy training initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
• Executing the privacy compliance strategy for the enterprise, analyzing global privacy laws and regulations and advising the business on privacy matters;
• Engaging with external stakeholders (including regulators and industry groups), in collaboration with Government Relations, to anticipate and influence new laws/regulations that may affect MetLife;
• Leading and maintaining cross-functional working groups to coordinate global privacy efforts, including current projects and initiatives, data protection issues (data breaches, etc.) and regulatory awareness;
• Supporting the development and roll out of privacy training, communications and awareness campaigns (both mandatory and targeted training) across the enterprise to reinforce privacy policies, procedures, and practices;
• Overseeing and advising on the adequacy of local monitoring & testing activities;
• Leading enterprise-wide assessments of privacy risk, and validating local assessments of privacy risk (including documentation of risk exposure and quality of issues and action plans) under the Compliance Risk Management Program;
• Implementing new processes, tools and systems to identify, assess, measure and monitor privacy compliance and privacy risk across MetLife’s global operations;

• Reports to: Vice President, Chief Privacy Officer
• Direct reports/team: Five direct reports
• Key Stakeholders: Regional Compliance Officers; Local Compliance Officers; EU Data Protection Officer; IT Risk & Security; Law Department; Enterprise Data Governance Office; Information Lifecycle Management Office; Third Party Risk Management Office.
Candidate Qualifications:
Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:
• Bachelor’s degree
• 8-10 years of relevant work experience, including work in a compliance or risk management role
• Robust knowledge of interplay between Privacy compliance and IT/technical safeguards and data governance/management
• Ability to multi-task and manage multi-functional projects effectively
• Ability to travel internationally
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Experience with people management
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with maintaining Privacy compliance programs for a multi-national organization strongly preferred
• JD degree from an accredited law school along with strong academic record
• Foreign language skills
