Job Description
The Risk and Return Management Group collaborates with Allstate business units and internal investment teams to design and implement investment strategy. The team is responsible for portfolio management, quantitative research, and risk management. The Investments Performance Measurement team is responsible for producing timely and accurate performance measurement calculations for total (actual) returns, benchmark returns, relative returns and associated attribution/analysis, and internal reporting of the performance measurement results for The Allstate Corporation’s Investments Portfolio.
The Quantitative Analyst/Developer is responsible for supporting efforts within the Risk and Return group to enhance the quality and availability of risk and return data, execution oversight of analytic systems and reporting. A key aspect of the role is to design, build, and maintain an attribution platform. The analyst is also responsible for analyzing and attributing performance results to portfolio management decisions, combining ex-ante risk analytics with ex-post performance attribution, and communicating attribution results to senior leadership. The Analyst should have a strong understanding of investment performance measurement and attribution concepts and methodologies for a diverse set of investments and asset types. The Analyst is expected to enhance and expand the team’s attribution analysis and reporting while responding to ad-hoc requests from senior leadership and portfolio managers. The Analyst is also expected to be well versed in investment risk measurement techniques like sensitivity analyses, stress testing, value-at-risk and scenario testing.
Key Responsibilities
• Interpret and analyze actual returns, benchmark returns, and relative returns vs. market indices and peers for Allstate’s investment portfolio
• Prepare attribution reports, develop presentations, and effectively communicate results to senior leadership.
• Enhance and expand attribution analysis and reporting for all asset types and strategies, including private assets and alternative investments
• Integrate risk metrics and portfolio positioning with attribution results to create and communicate storylines effectively.
• Establish and implement effective processes to improve data management of risk and return data.
• Oversee execution of analytic systems including checking accuracy of data inputs, performing quality checks on analytic output, and presentation of analytic results.
• Ensure all analytic systems are adhering to Enterprise Model Governance standards and procedures.
• Interact with portfolio managers and analysts to understand key portfolio management decisions.
• Respond to ad-hoc requests for performance measurement information from senior leadership, traders, analysts, and other interested parties.
• Own and be accountable for execution of responsibilities.
• Prepare and maintain on-going documentation efforts about performance attribution concepts and methodologies and associated internal controls, processes and results.
• Assist Technology and Business Intelligence teams in development of firm wide analytics data platform
• .Lead team level projects and prepare specialized analysis as requested by senior leadership.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Experience
• 7+ years of investment performance measurement and/or capital markets/finance experience in the investments industry.
• Degree in Finance, Accounting, Mathematics or related field required
• Graduate degree such as MBA or MS in Finance a plus
• CFA and/or CIPM preferred
• Strong understanding of investment performance measurement and attribution concepts and methodologies for a diverse set of investments and asset types.
• Knowledge of equity and fixed income performance measurement and attribution methodologies
• Strong analytical abilities, problem solving and decision-making skills
• Strong technological acumen, including SQL and analytic programming languages (such as Matlab, Python, R)
• Excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to meet deadlines
• Flexible and able to adapt to changing circumstances
• Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills
• Experience working with large volumes of data (such as MS SQL Server, Oracle, Hadoop)
• Experience with performance measurement software (Eagle/Aladdin a plus)
• Experience with reporting and data visualization tools (Tableau, SSRS, Microstrategy)
