Description
We are currently seeking a Staff Accountant for our State government team to be based out of our office located in Springfield, IL. This position is in a unique role within one of our elite service areas that will be handling a multitude of different projects on engagement teams assigned to audit Illinois State agencies. Flexible work arrangements available.
Responsibilities:
• Develop effective knowledge of Illinois State government, professional auditing standards, State fiscal procedures, and general auditing techniques
• Participate as an important member of an audit team and complete delegated tasks of increasing complexity and responsibility
• Perform background research of Illinois State agencies being audit, including relevant Illinois Compiled Statutes, Administrative Rules, and other regulations
• Complete audit procedures on-site at Illinois State site locations
• Learn to gather, interpret, compile, and analyze data relevant to the audits performed
• Interview Illinois State agency personnel
• Assist engagement team in drafting audit reports and relevant audit findings
• Obtain professional experience through firm provided training and on-the-job experience
• Perform other assigned or required duties
Qualifications and Requirements:
• BA/BS Degree in Accounting or equivalent
• CPA certification recommended but not required
• Previous history of working within a local or State government entity preferred, especially related to financial statement preparation or audit
• Proficiency with computerized accounting software and MS Office
• Strong client rapport and project management skills
• Verbal and written skills with the emphasis on being able to articulate complex information to a variety of clientele within government entities
