Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities
Attract, Retain and Develop World Class Talent:
• Proactive recruitment of talent; work with management to establish and implement a strategic staffing strategy.
• Effective orientation and on-boarding.
• Manage staff performance; implement strategies and plans to address staff development; identify and address training needs on an ongoing basis; provide frequent performance feedback.
• Work with management to develop and implement effective training, performance development and succession planning.
• Effective retention planning; proactively manage and respond to turnover
• Effectively utilize reward system to distinguish top performers and significant achievements.
Provide Compelling Claim Services:
• Employ proper claim handling techniques to protect the integrity of our brand and providing consistent service quality and streamlined processes to add value for our customers.
• Develop and execute a strategic file management plan that achieves optimal file resolution and business results.
• Provide face-to-face and written guidance to ensure effectiveness, engagement, accuracy and efficiency.
• Conduct quality file best practices guidelines.
• Establish/ follow up on file reviews per diary instructions, conducting additional reviews, as necessary.
• Develop and implement process improvement strategies that impact indemnity and expense management, investigations, subrogation, structured settlement, medical case and litigation management.
• Oversee the handling of the Company's severe and/or complex claims with exposure greater than $1M or $500K for Construction claims.
• Ensure timely and appropriate reserves.
• Effectively and efficiently manage allocated loss adjustment expenses.
• Oversee the development and employment of creative resolution strategies for complex files effectively utilizing all appropriate resources.
• Identify business drivers and trends from rigorously analyzing workers compensation claim data.
• Work with Workers Compensation teams to develop, understand and implement national strategies and provide input on new strategies.

Job Summary
• As a member of the Workers Compensation management team, this position is responsible for driving product quality, and performance of the Workers Compensation severity claim team handling serious and complex commercial lines and personal liability claims.
• Provide direction and technical guidance through a continuous process of management involvement and frequent claim file review and extensive litigation management. Reinforce Workers Compensation Vision, Strategies, and Objectives through word and action.
• Select, lead, mentor, performance manage and develop staff.
Minimum Qualifications
10 years claim handling or catastrophic medical case management experience with 5 - 7 years experience handling serious injury and complex workers compensation claims preferred. In order to perform the essential job functions of this job, acquisition and maintenance of Insurance License(s) may be required to comply with state and Travelers requirements. Generally, license(s) are required to be obtained within three months of starting the job.
Education, Work Experience & Knowledge
• College degree or equivalent business experience.
• Skilled in coverage, liability and damages analysis and has a thorough understanding of the litigation process, relevant case and statutory law and expert litigation management skills.
• Current on jurisdictional laws and regulations.
• Extensive claim and/or legal experience and/or medical case management experience and thus the technical expertise to evaluate severe and complex claims.
• Thorough understanding of commercial lines products, policy language, exclusions, ISO forms, and effective claims handling practices.
