Description
The Sr. Director, Community Development Finance leads a team responsible for managing a community development equity investment and loan portfolio for the Company's Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) Program. S/he will identify new opportunities to meet the organization's community development investment and loan goals, lead the transaction review and approval process, and manage teams responsible for the organization's growing community development finance portfolio.
• Directs the community development investment and loan program, including managing teams responsible for business development, underwriting, portfolio management, operations and reporting.
• Leads the portfolio management team responsible for managing the organization’s existing Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) and New Market Tax Credit (NMTC) investments and conducting regular portfolio reviews.
• Oversees a team responsible for due diligence, financial modeling, and preparing investment committee materials for new investments.
• Ensures compliance with internal controls and approvals with internal departments including Tax, Accounting, Finance, Credit Risk and Legal.
• Provides senior management with regular reporting on portfolio performance and forecasts.
• Minimizes portfolio risk by recommending strategies and work with internal functions including Credit Risk and Treasury.
• Manages CD Finance processes including third party vendor contracts, annual goal setting, tax allocation and budget requests and managing the transaction closing process with internal and external counsel. Lead continuous improvement around these processes.
• Builds relationships with community development financial institutions and other CD finance organizations throughout the organization's footprint.
• Promotes a positive external presence for the Company by working with Communications and Marketing to publicize CD Finance transactions and partnerships.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in business, finance, political science or other relevant field. Master’s Degree (MBA or MS in Finance) preferred
• 15+ years’ Community development finance, multifamily housing lending or investment of commercial lending experience
• Community Reinvestment Act experience and knowledge of applicable regulations and tax law for community development products
• Excellent oral, written and presentation communication skills, including ability to present recommendations and highlight key points in a succinct manner to executive management based on sound quantitative and qualitative analysis
• Demonstrated ability to develop new business relationships and negotiate partnerships and deals
• Sophisticated analytical, financial modeling skills, including valuation analysis and project management skills
• Extensive knowledge of real estate investments including community development financing such as Low-Income Housing Tax Credits, New Markets Tax Credits and Historic Tax Credits
• Demonstrated ability to foster collaboration with a range of stakeholders including business units, executive leadership and not-for-profit partners.
• Knowledge of credit policy and asset management processes
• Ability to manage large budgets, contracts and sponsorship agreements
• Ability to exercise superior reasoning skills and sound business judgment to influence decision making and effectively interface with executive management
• Ability to identify and successfully resolve potential tax, accounting, compliance or human resource issues and conflicts
• Ability to successfully manage multiple large, complex projects, priorities and deadlines concurrently, often under tight time constraints
• Recognized both within and outside the organization as thought leader in area of expertise
• Demonstrated knowledge of MS Office and Project Management Tools. (Clarity, Visio, Excel, MS Project, etc.)
