BUSINESS UNIT DESCRIPTION
CIBC Real Estate Finance (“REF”) is part of CIBC Bank USA’s Commercial Real Estate platform and one of the most active direct lenders and principal underwriters of commercial real estate loans in the United States. REF offers a full menu of loan programs including Interim/Bridge, Permanent, Structured Debt and Construction as well as other capital solutions. REF has expertise in financing all asset types with an emphasis on office, retail, multifamily, industrial and hotel properties.
REF provides borrowers with exceptional service through four regional offices: New York, Chicago, Newport Beach and Atlanta. Our clients include owners, developers, opportunity funds and public real estate companies throughout North America.
JOB PURPOSE
Analyze and evaluate credit worthiness of a business to determine financial risk for the bank. Required tasks include, but are not limited to: cash flow analysts, value estimates and review of leases, financial and operating statements, third party reports, and real estate market information under supervision of senior Relationship Managers.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Help manage the new deal origination process and asset management for both balance sheet and CMBS real estate secured finance transactions while mindful of regulatory and firm risk policies.
• Daily interaction with origination staff, helping to maintain existing relationships with mortgage bankers, commercial banks, real estate brokers, developers, investors, and other sources of third party commercial mortgage loan business.
• Assist in the cross selling of all of the Bank’s loan and deposit products and services.
• Assist with third party due diligence process, including review of appraisal, environmental, and engineering reports.
• Participate in periodic site inspections.
• Participate in the preparation of analytic credit memorandums for various loan committees, internal risk management, rating agencies and B-Piece buyers, and co-lenders, as applicable.
• Participate in the closing of transactions that includes review of legal loan documents and coordination of the closing with lenders and borrower’s counsel, and in-house closing coordinator.
• Interact closely with CMBS and Syndication teams as applicable.
• Asset management responsibilities include on-going monitoring of credit quality and performance while ensuring compliance with regulators and policy, including the preparation of annual reviews, status updates, and modifications.
• Primary relationship point of contact with direct Borrower post-closing.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
• Undergraduate degree in Finance/Accounting/Economics/Real Estate/Business preferred.
• Prior experience in real estate finance preferred.
• Capability to disseminate oral and written information in a concise and thorough manner.
• Strong proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required.
• Strong analytic skills. Must be able to apply knowledge and to solve problems creatively.
• Collaborative personal and professional style that advances a collegial partnered approach to meeting corporate objectives.
