New York Life’s Retail Annuities Department is seeking a Regulatory Researcher and Writer to support work of the Contract Development and Inquiries Team.
This Senior Associate role reports to the Corporate Vice President of Contract Development and Inquiries. The Senior Associate will assist with and/or have full ownership of the research and writing required to complete compliant annuity policy forms and other annuity regulatory documents. The process is a collaborative one, involving business partners from actuarial, law, product, and other areas. Other responsibilities include: reviewing product proposals against existing annuity related laws and statutes, quality checking and updating existing forms, maintaining auditable records, and researching and providing data for state reporting.
The ideal candidate: i) excels at taking complex, technical, and/or legal concepts and translating them into clear, concise, compliant, and error free language; ii) has demonstrated experience reading, analyzing, synthesizing, and summarizing complex laws and statutes; iii) enjoys writing and immersion in legal research and analysis; and iv) is comfortable and capable of working with tight timelines.
Qualifications
• Experience reading statutes and legislation.
• Knowledge of annuity products (variable and fixed).
• Strong legal research and analytical skills, including experience conducting legal research utilizing online search engines.
• Strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage concurrent projects and meet deadlines while maintaining quality of deliverables.
• Proofreading skills that reflect a commitment to accuracy in written documents (familiarity with Chicago Manual of Style or other style guide).
• Compliance mindset, with a commitment to uphold company business ethics.
• Able to develop and implement procedures in support of work and to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Self-motivated with ability to work both independently and as a collaborative team member.
• Experienced with software applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat. Experience with web-based collaborative platforms is a plus.
• Bachelor's degree required (English major or related area preferred). JD or Master's degree preferred.
• 6+ years of related work experience
• Series 6 or obtain within one year
