Job Description:
The Audit Director for Regulatory Compliance will lead all audit activities relating to Regulatory Compliance and Financial Crimes Compliance for Santander Bank, N.A. across risk assessment, ongoing business monitoring, and audit execution. The Audit Director ensures the audit program is executed in a timely and high-quality manner and is accountable for driving robust and effective relationships with key stakeholders in Compliance Risk Management, the Retail Bank, Commercial Bank, and Corporate and Investment Bank in addition to Group Audit in Madrid. Specifically, the Audit Director will be accountable for the following aspects:
• Assists the Audit Manager, where applicable, in presenting, discussing and agreeing audit results and recommendations with business management.
• Assists the Director/CAE in the risk assessment exercise in the area under his/her responsibility.
• Attends professional training actions provided by the company.
• Builds and maintains key client relationships; is a trusted adviser to clients in enhancing the control environment and operational efficiency.
• Builds effective teams and manages and develops talent within them. Provides team members with on the job training.
• Ensures high-quality, error free and timely audit reports, recommendations and ratings.
• Ensures timely completion of the approved audit plan in the area under his/her responsibility.
• Oversees the Audit Managers leading reviews and activities.
• Participates in the completion of internal audit staff performance appraisals, promotion recommendations, terminations, and professional development.
• Proposes new audit techniques and procedures to improve effectiveness/efficiency of audit reviews and activities.
• Provides consistent quality service to both internal and external stakeholders that meets the company’s standards.
• Provides leadership to the internal audit team and assists the Director in directing the internal audit program in the area under his/her responsibility.
• Reviews and approves final recommendations, ratings and reports, prior to presentation to the CAE.
• Reviews industry standards and regulatory rules and expectations to ensure they are incorporated into audit procedures and properly covered by the audit team.
• Recruits, trains, develops, motivates, sets goals, and provides on-going feedback to a team of direct reports.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree Accounting, Finance, Business or related field., Master's Degree
• At least 9-12 years audit experience. Additional relevant experience will be considered.
• On an exceptional basis and in the case of high specialized / complexity areas previous audit experience could not be required.
• CIA or field-related certification (CPA, CRCM, CRMA, CFE, CAMS, CFSA, CBA, etc.) could be required depending on the area; others preferred.
• Ability to positively and comfortably handle and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment with focused attention to detail.
• Ability to train team members adequately to advance skills and knowledge.
• Analytical and problem solving skills as well as the ability to work independently.
• Detail oriented with organizational skills.
• Great leadership skills, teamwork skills, as well as the ability to work independently.
• Possesses a broad and comprehensive understanding of the business or area.
• Progressive decision making skills, making educated and timely judgments.
• Solid diplomatic skills with the ability to resolve conflict in a civil manner.
• Technology and computer skills, with the ability to effectively use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint).
