Role Value Proposition:
Participates in the rate-making, reserving, and risk evaluation functions. Counsels management and advises on underwriting functions that require actuarial or mathematical techniques to determine appropriate courses of action. Assures preparation and interpretation of data in support of rate filings with various state insurance departments. Determines rates of mortality, sickness, retirement, etc. based on analysis of statistical data. Assists in design of insurance plans, calculation of premiums, determining cash reserves and premium rates necessary to ensure sufficient funds for benefits payment and profitability.
Key Responsibilities:
Initiates, organizes, coordinates, and analyzes actuarial research and audits. Develops actuarial assumptions and directs the development of policy values. Develops and maintains profit studies, reserve non-forfeiture values and GAAP, PC-based programs, rate files, and procedures. Prepares the actuarial portions of the financial statements and income tax returns. Performs other related duties as assigned or required.
Supervisor Responsibilities:
None. May provide guidance to junior staff members or function as a project leader.
Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:
• Bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics or actuarial science.
• Committed to completing the Society of Actuaries' education system courses necessary to attain FSA designation.
• Obtained ASA designation except, possibly, attendance at the Associateship Professional Course.
• Good computer skills.
• Good communication skills.
• 2+ yrs. related actuarial business experience
