Description
The Residential Community Mortgage Originator is responsible for originating home purchase, home refinance and home improvement mortgage loans with a primary focus on serving low-to-moderate income borrowers, minority borrowers and/or lending in majority-minority and low-to-moderate income communities; utilizes centers of influence and other outside referral sources to identify mortgage lending prospects; collaborates with department staff to limit risk and ensure the loan progresses efficiently through the process; creates and maintains a mutually beneficial referral relationship with all bank partners.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Performs business development and generates mortgage loans to meet the needs of low-to-moderate income borrowers, minority borrowers and/or provide mortgage lending within majority-minority and low-to-moderate income communities
• Attends community events and initiates an outside calling plan to develop low-to-moderate income and minority borrower prospects, referral sources and solicit customers resulting in acceptable loan production
• Meets or exceeds defined production objectives by focusing on lending to low-to-moderate income borrowers, minority borrowers and/or lending within low-to-moderate income and/or majority-minority communities
• Profiles prospects/customers to determine lending needs, financial situation and credit standing to recommend appropriate mortgage product; generates and manages a robust pipeline of mortgage loan clients
• Develops business relationships with Realtors, Builders/Developers and Centers of Influence (COI’s) located in majority-minority and low-to-moderate income communities and/or serving low-to-moderate income individuals and minority individuals to increase mortgage loan volume
• Deploys prospecting strategies to identify and obtain mortgage loans and bank customers
• Enters applicant information into system and assists in the collection of required documentation for the bank to make sound credit decisions; works with department staff to ensure loan progress through the system in an efficient manner
• Provides timely and proper follow-up to the customer; exceeds customer service standards
• Establishes relationships with state and local housing agencies and community based affordable housing organizations to generate and increase mortgage opportunities within targeted areas
• Conducts and/or represents the bank at homeownership educational seminars and workshops promoting first-time buyer and affordable housing opportunities
• Cross-sells bank products to develop full relationship with customers
• Completes, passes and maintains an up to date status for all positional and company required compliance and regulatory courses by assigned due date(s)
• Participates in special projects and assignments and performs other duties as assigned
*Note: As part of the employment process for this position, you will have to meet the requirements of a background credit check. This position requires compliance with the S.A.F.E Mortgage Licensing Act of 2008 and all related regulations. Ongoing employment is contingent upon meeting all such requirements.
Requirements
• High School Diploma (or equivalent) and a minimum of two years of related mortgage loan origination experience or equivalent combination of education and experience; Associates Degree with a focus in finance, accounting or business preferred
• Experience in the execution of sales, lending, and customer service strategies to generate loan production including self-generated sales
• Experience in serving the credit needs of low-to-moderate income and minority individuals preferred
• Knowledge of conventional and government lending guidelines as well as residential mortgage processing, underwriting, and closing procedures
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook; ability to learn and operate department/bank specific loan origination software
• Ability to read and listen, understand and communicate information and ideas in a clear and understandable manner, both orally and in writing with business unit management, customers staff, state and federal regulators and officials and significant business partner.
• Strong ability to read, analyze and interpret financial reports and legal documents; performs complex calculations; effectively researches, analyzes and evaluates information to make decisions, solve problems and achieve goals; strong project management skills desired
• Demonstrated financial responsibility, character, and general fitness such as to warrant a determination that the individual will operate honestly, fairly and efficiently
• Work includes frequent travel throughout the assigned geographic area.
