Responsibilities
• Administers and participates in developing human resources policies and procedures that pertain to employee relations.
◦ Establishes and maintains an employee advocate and trusted advisor status among employees and leadership.
◦ Ensures the uniform and equitable application of policies and procedures. Provides interpretation and clarification necessary for the application of policies.
◦ Provides expertise in supervisory training and development, coaching and counseling, disciplinary actions, legal matters and the resolution of employee issues.
◦ Participates in the preparation and communication of the employee handbook.
◦ Provides input for, reviews and / or approves department specific rules and procedures.
◦ Assesses employee morale through formal and informal methods.
◦ Fosters compliance with company values, company policies and government regulations through communicating, counseling employees and leadership, auditing / observing behaviors, and making decisions grounded in established guidelines.
• Serves as a resource and counsel for supervisors and managers on employee, leadership and legal issues. Coaches supervisors and managers on effective practices, communications, etc. Assists leadership in understanding the implications on staff of business actions. Refers more complex issues to more experienced staff and / or management.
• Mitigates risk to the organization through investigating and resolving moderately complex to complex employee issues and concerns. Involves more experienced staff and / or management on the most complex issues.
◦ Investigates and responds to employee relations issues, such as inquiries, complaints and harassment allegations.
◦ Advises leadership in the appropriate resolution of employee relations issues.
◦ Administers disciplinary actions, up to and including terminations.
◦ Appropriately handles legal matters to control law suits, unemployment claims, etc.
◦ Maintains appropriate documentation and record keeping of investigations, corrective actions, disciplinary actions, etc.
◦ Works with attorneys (in-house and outside counsel) on difficult employment matters, charges and litigation preparation.
• Reviews and approves moderately complex to complex involuntary terminations. Ensures equity, consistency and fairness in decisions made. Ensures company polices are followed.
• Conducts exit interviews. Follows-up on information received through the exit interview process.
• Provides support to the business for job eliminations, involuntary terminations, and unemployment.
• Audits the organization to identify employee relations issues. Recommends appropriate actions to issues and mitigate risks.
◦ Researches and analyzes human resources data.
◦ Provides appropriate reporting to Human Resources management and organizational leadership.
◦ Reviews and / or completes and files Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) reporting.
• Presents and may assist in developing employee and manager training programs on employment law, coaching and counseling, disciplinary actions and other employee relations topics.
• Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of employment law and various human resources functions, including benefits administration, leaves of absence, pay administration, performance management, staffing / recruitment and training to provide support to line managers. Participates in ensuring compliance with all local, state and federal postings and regulations.
◦ Demonstrates advanced knowledge of existing and new human resource programs, including Benefits, Compensation, Employee Relations and Learning & Development programs.
• Demonstrates advanced knowledge of the business and organization.
• Provides training, guidance and assistance to less experienced staff.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent. Master’s Degree preferred.
Field of Study: Human Resources, Business or a related discipline.
Experience: 4 to 8 years of related experience. Continuing progress toward and/or the completion of a professional designation preferred, such as Professional in Human Resources (PHR), Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) or Global Professional in Human Resources (GPHR).
