Position Summary:
Kemper is a publicly-traded, multi-billion-dollar insurance and financial services company, and we are seeking a talented and motivated Senior Accountant to join our Corporate Accounting team in downtown Chicago. This is a fantastic role for a strong performer who is looking to greatly expand their knowledge of ledgers, consolidation, and financial reporting within a multi-faceted insurance company (P&C, life, health) that has exposure to SEC, GAAP, and statutory accounting. Kemper has a proven track record for developing its people for higher roles within the department as well as other functions and across its operating entities. We seek a detail-oriented professional to assist with a wide range of monthly, quarterly and annual accounting functions associated with Kemper’s financial reporting.
The Senior Accountant will have a broad range of responsibilities that could include, but are not limited to, preparing and consolidating monthly journal entries, general ledger reconciliations, allocations of expenses throughout organization, analyzing trends in data, consolidating company operating information for internal and external financial reporting, preparing quarterly and annual financial statements, and preparing footnote disclosures for Kemper’s 10-Q and 10-K SEC filings. You will also assist in designing, preparing, and analyzing management reports. Identify and evaluate opportunities for process improvements for the department focusing on controls.
Position Qualifications:
• 2+ years of experience in corporate accounting. Insurance / financial services experience is a plus.
• BA/BS degree in Accounting or Finance.
• CPA or CPA candidate a plus. • Ability to identify, analyze and solve accounting issues.
• Effective writing skills and strong attention to detail required.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
• Progressive thinking skills, a strong work ethic, and a knack for innovative solutions.
• Excellent communication skills to interact with varying levels of management and professional staff.
