CPM focuses on three primary areas of responsibility: concentration management, emerging risk research, and portfolio shaping activities. The team is responsible for establishing an enterprise-wide concentration risk framework that will allocate growth capacity based on established risk appetite. Emerging risk research is focused on cascading appropriate forward-looking risk indicators through the enterprise to facilitate understanding and accountability in portfolio management. Together, this risk appetite driven approach to capital allocation and the forward view of emerging risks will lead to focused discussions with LOB and Credit Risk partners about portfolio shaping recommendations on origination strategy and risk mitigation efforts to tie business strategy to the firm’s risk appetite.
The Research Analyst is responsible for conducting CPM’s research analyses and assisting in the presentation of findings to LOD1/LOD2 partners, and will report to the Head of CPM Research. CPM research will take two forms:
• “Quick takes” will be topical one-page updates on current events or headlines.
• “Deep dive” research will be 5-10 page presentations summarizing findings and recommendations for research projects. These presentations will likely be the result of portfolio manager dialogue with LOD1/LOD2 partners, but may be commissioned by CPM directly. CPM will strive to support these deeper dive views with objective analysis of underlying data, we will work to avoid simply “cutting and pasting” views from other Industry analysis.
All research publications will include summary take-aways, insight on portfolio impact, and recommendations for action. Research may be aimed to mitigate an emerging risk or to identify opportunities for deeper client/industry penetration.
Primary Responsibilities
• Surveil Regions’ credit performance in the context of peers and market trends
• Monitor several large data sets of external data for emerging risk trends
• Monitor headlines for emerging risks and opportunities
• Work with portfolio managers to ensure that research is relevant and applicable to Regions and to develop action plans to mitigate loss or exploit opportunity
