Controllers & Tax Services (CTS) is responsible for the accounting, financial reporting, and associated internal controls for MUFG Union Bank and the U.S. Operations of MUFG. CTS strives to be a valued business advisor and reliable steward of financial information who empowers MUFG to become the world’s most trusted financial group.
During your ten weeks in the CTS Accounting Summer Analyst Program, you will gain hands-on exposure to accounting and banking and will be challenged with meaningful projects. This program will provide a strong foundation in business finance and the opportunity to develop skills necessary to excel in a global financial services organization.
Top-performing summer analysts may qualify to receive a full-time Analyst job offer to join CTS after graduation. Our CTS Accounting Summer Analyst Program is also a proven route into the CTS Rotational Program, which provides two years of additional accounting experience while enabling you to pursue your CPA license.
This Summer Analyst position is with the Controls Assurance & Advisory (CAA) department based in the Oakland office. CAA is responsible for evaluating the controls over financial reporting, including annual risk assessment, scoping, testing, and reporting. This position will report directly to a CAA Director and will assist in several responsibilities, including but not limited to:
• Analyzing financial statement line items using quantitative and qualitative factors to evaluate risk to determine testing scope for current year
• Performing tests of control design, through walkthroughs or other methods; and updating control documentation as needed
• Mapping key reporting procedures of companies financial reports through Visio flowcharting
• Executing testing of in-scope key control activities upon confirmation that control is designed appropriately
• Documenting and concluding on testing results, and attest to accuracy of the testing results o: Collaboration with CAA team members in planning and execution of 2018 annual SOX program.
• Oversee the control design and life-cycle by conducting process walkthroughs with various business units and maintaining SOX and internal control documentation
• Evaluate business process changes impacting internal controls and provide recommendations for control redesign, as necessary
• Coordination with the CAA team members, internal auditors, and external auditors regarding SOX compliance, testing, and issue resolution
Qualifications
The ideal candidate is a currently-enrolled college student (rising senior, current senior, or graduate student).
• GPA of 3.0 or higher that will complete their degree requirements in December 2019 or Spring 2020
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
• Excellent computer skills, specifically with Microsoft Office (Excel and PowerPoint)
• Excellent organization and time management skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Self-starter with the ability to synthesize ambiguous information
• Ability to work equally well on self-managed or team-oriented projects
