• Some travel (less than 10%)
A bachelor's or master's degree in accounting, with a minimum 3.25 GPA (overall and in accounting), is required prior to the start of employment. Associates must be eligible to sit for the CPA exam or have CPA certification. Previous experience or internships in a public accounting firm performing audit or tax work is a plus.
U.S. citizenship or Lawful Permanent Resident status is required for this entry-level tax position.

Overview
BKD, LLP, is seeking career-minded candidates to fill a National Office position as a National Tax Associate. This is a highly visible role encompassing various aspects of taxation and quality control for the firm. The National Tax Associate will report directly to the Director of Tax Quality Control and will work closely with the National Tax Director and National Tax Assistant Directors. The National Tax Associate is a firmwide resource and supports the firm’s tax quality control and growth initiatives.
This role offers a rare opportunity and invaluable experience to work in a national tax office early in your career while also gaining exposure and experience preparing tax returns in one of BKD’s practice offices. The majority of the time, this position will support the firm from the National Office ensuring compliance with internal policies and procedures but also will have the opportunity during peak seasons to gain exposure and hands-on experience in the tax return preparation process.
Ideal candidates have a desire to broaden their technical skills in tax compliance, enjoy problem solving and possess the ability to manage various projects and an interest in growing their long-term career as a tax professional in public accounting.
Candidates in this position should expect to spend up to three years in the National Office, located in Springfield Missouri, before rotating to one of 30+ BKD practice offices throughout the Midwest as a tax professional. This is an excellent and rare opportunity in public accounting.
Responsibilities
• Maintain a current working knowledge of legislative updates and tax regulations with regular technical reading and attendance at continuing education programs
• Assist in the design, creation and updating of firm resources including Excel-based tax tools, training materials and presentations
• Assist with implementation and monitoring of the firm’s internal tax policies and procedures
• Prepare various reports for firm management
• Prepare tax returns for a variety of clients, including corporations, individuals, partnerships, fiduciary and exempt organizations with federal and multi-state tax returns
