The Consumer Credit Officer is responsible for overseeing the asset quality of the Consumer Loan portfolio for all consumer lending business lines, including direct and indirect, personal real estate and credit card. As part of the Credit Administration management team, this position will build and implement strategies and policies that align consumer loan growth goals with corporate risk appetite. The Consumer Credit Officer has primary responsibility for monitoring the performance of consumer loan portfolios. This position acts as the primary liaison with federal and state banking regulators and with internal oversight entities including Audit, Compliance, Controllers, Legal, Credit Review and Enterprise Risk Management.
Will be responsible for all Consumer Loan Products. Position chairs the Consumer Risk Management Committee, a senior level committee monitoring risk in the consumer lending portfolios with responsibility for review, approval and implementation of Consumer Lending Policy, and new product approval. Incumbent also acts in a consulting role for compliance, operational, and reputational risk issues in non-lending consumer products and retail service/support units.
Technical Knowledge/Skills
•Working knowledge of consumer collection laws
•Strong understanding of consumer banking laws and compliance regulations
•Strong knowledge of consumer credit underwriting standards, regulatory expectations, and internal consumer credit policies and practices.
•Good understanding of consumer loan documentation requirements and procedures
•Ability to effectively communicate with professional and administrative staff
•Ability to operate within a cross-functional line of business environment
•Ability to solve complex problems; identifies multiple courses of action to solve problems
•Ability to confront and work through conflicts
•Strong coaching skills
•Provides useful feedback and measures accomplishments
Experience/Education
•Strong background in all areas of consumer lending with working knowledge of personal real estate, direct and indirect consumer lending and credit card
•Fifteen years of progressive experience working for a bank with assets greater than $10 billion
•Bachelor of Science degree in finance, accounting, business or related field is required
•Graduate degree and a degree from a national banking school are preferred.
