The primary duties of the Retail Assistant Manager are:
• Sales Culture: Foster a sales and quality culture within the assigned area of operations by focusing on the achievement of scorecard goals to include: revenue growth, sales, and Quality Standards. Ensure associates cross sell appropriate products and services during each customer interaction. Monitor and evaluate associate/member interactions to ensure established office goals and objectives are achieved.
• Operations: Under the guidance of the Retail Manager or District Manager/Director, manages the day-to-day operations of the assigned area including service delivery, staff administration, facility maintenance and appearance, purchasing, record keeping, retail product and merchandise management, administrative functions and other operational areas of the retail store. Follows set guidelines for the use of attractive product displays to effectively market all company products and services. Works with Travel Services and/or Distribution Marketing to coordinate promotional events. Ensures adherence to Federal and State laws/regulations; AAA Club Alliance policies and procedures, and vendor requirements (ARC, IATAN, etc.). Manages all operations in the absence of the direct, higher level manager.
• Personnel Administration: Under the guidance of the Retail Manager, District Manager/Director, manages the personnel functions of a specific assigned area of responsibility to include scheduling, recruitment and retention, coaching and training, motivation and communication. Work with direct management to ensure performance expectations are set for individuals, assess results, and coach for improvement.
• Service: Under the guidance of the Retail Manager, District Manager/Director, effectively monitors day-to-day integration, coordination and communication between all business units in the retail store while consistently ensuring high quality customer service is provided by associates. Assist retail store associates in serving customers as needed. May represent the retail store, district or region on company-wide committees or work groups.
• Interpersonal Relations: Demonstrates and promotes a culture of Shared Values and teamwork and participates on special project teams as needed.
• Data Management: Prepare and process established reports as required. Review and analyze report data to devise new approaches and formalize actions that enhance operational efficiencies and associate effectiveness. Ensure consistent use of analytics (sales, financial, quality and operational) to monitor results and develop plans to improve results.
• Problem/Complaint Resolution: Under the guidance of the Retail Manager, District Manager/Director, reviews and resolve problems and/or special requests and authorize special member services as necessary. Professionally investigate customer complaints in a timely manner. Escalate customer issues to the Retail Manager, District Manager/Director, as appropriate.
• Community Citizen: In conjunction with the Retail Manager, Retail District Manager/Director, develops external business relationships that generate business for the retail stores and enhance the AAA image in the community.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Ability to co-manage a retail operation, under the direction of a higher level manager, at a level normally acquired through the completion of a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and three (3) years of business experience which includes at least two (2) years of supervisory experience.
• Proficient in the use of Internet technology and Microsoft Office Suite products including Word and Excel.
• Effective organizational, analytical and communication skills to enable accurate completion of paperwork, assignments and constructive interaction with associates at all levels, business line contacts, members/clients, vendors, community, and general public as business necessitates.
• Notary Public designation required (within six (6) months from date in position).
• Attainment of Membership and Travel Insurance License is required within six (6) months of job acceptance.
• Attainment of the Certified Travel Agent (CTA) professional travel designation will be required within two (2) year of acceptance of the position. Attainment of the Certified Travel Counselor (CTC) professional travel designation is preferred within five (5) years of acceptance of the position.
• Knowledge of Maryland Department of Motor Vehicle laws is preferred. (MD stores only).
• Satisfactory Maryland State Police criminal record (MD stores only).
• Ability to work as necessitated by business conditions; may include holidays and weekends.
• Ability to effectively monitor operations for area of responsibility and respond to issues in a timely and responsive manner both during and outside of regular business hours.
