Overview
Portfolio Strategy manages programs, models and technology that optimizes the performance of mortgage portfolios serving over 1.3 million customers and over $250 billion in unpaid principal balance. Portfolio Strategy develops financial models, interprets investor and agency guidelines with regard to lending and loss mitigation, and creates loan programs and decision engines.
Portfolio Strategy interfaces with all segments of the company from loan servicing, fulfillment, production, treasury and capital markets to executive management, providing strategic recommendations and analysis to support key decision making in loan origination, servicing and trading. The Manager will focus on the economics of loans purchased out of Ginnie Mae mortgage-backed securities (MBS) and will support the Vice President, Portfolio Strategy by identifying opportunities to drive revenue, minimize loss and improve investment returns. This position will require the application of financial, operational, and statistical competencies in determining the best execution for PennyMac’s portfolio.
Job Description
• Routine and ad-hoc analysis & reporting on loans purchased from Ginnie Mae MBS (early-buyout) for redelivery and resale. Responsible for daily monitoring of loan status and EBO balance sheet.
• Manage creation of materials for weekly and monthly review with internal stakeholders and executives.
• Support portfolio management activities by working independently to analyze trends and identify major revenue and loss drivers. Implement loss mitigation strategies to reduce potential servicing losses.
• Develop a deep understanding of loan servicing economics and operational processes and apply these concepts for portfolio management purposes.
• Apply concepts of net present value, internal rate of return, return on equity, regression, and P&L statement analysis.
Ideal Candidate will have the following:
The ideal candidate with have the following skills, abilities and qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in related field (Finance, Economics, Accounting, Real Estate). MBA (or in process) preferred.
• 4-6 years of experience in the financial industry. Mortgage or fixed income highly preferred.
• Highly proficient in MS Excel and in manipulating large data sets. Experience with MS VB, SQL, or R programming is a plus.
• Must possess the ability to work collaboratively with various departments and manage multiple priorities/stakeholders.
• Proven track record at delivering timely and accurate information in a fast paced environment.
• Excellent critical thinking, attention to detail, mathematical and sound judgment skills.
