The UXDesign Director is a senior-level leadership role with broad responsibilities across multiple areas of expertise (practice areas) that comprise UXDesign. The person in this role will lead other leaders (multiple teams) and may also have some senior- or principal-level direct reports who are individual contributors.
Maximizing UX Design’s value to the bank
• Drives thought leadership in design thinking & experience strategy across several, simultaneous projects.
• Advocates and embodies customer-obsession, within and outside the UXDesign organization, resulting in simple, innovative, lovable digital products/experiences
• Presents persuasively and authoritatively to peers and senior leadership, while facilitating collaborative conversation.
• Partners effectively with business line clients, experience team product management, TOS, delivery, marketing, analytics and other teams to strengthen relationships while delivering great work
• Directs people and work efforts across several, simultaneous projects to meet business goals
• Measures and manages the UXDesign contribution by
◦ Synthesizing each project’s business goals to set specific, measurable objectives so we can measure design success.
◦ Managing ongoing measurement and reporting of these criteria.
◦ Consistently delivering work that meets or exceeds the criteria
◦ Reporting regularly on these measurements to senior leadership
• Manages the “brand” of the experience design team and promotes a design-centric culture within the Bank, making ours a team others seek out for learning, collaboration (or even to join our team)
Leading the business of UXDesign
• Partners with the VP of User Experience to
◦ define and evolve the UX vision in alignment with Omnichannel strategy
◦ build rock-solid partnerships with customer experience, innovation, and other partner organizations
◦ drive customer-obsessed design thinking that creates business value throughout the company
◦ defines and execute a comprehensive roadmap for UXDesign business maturity, including stretch objectives and objectively-measurable goals
• Drives excellence in design; delivers ever-better work; and manages project timing, financials and talent resources (employees, contractors and consultants).
• Clearly quantifies the strategic value and business benefit of UXDesign work and drives pitching them to executive management for investment approval
• Defines and manages U.S. Bank’s comprehensive digital design system, including atomic design framework, underlying interaction patterns, and re-usable user flows/journeys
• Creates, maintains and evolves a scalable methodology, shared across UXDesign teams, driving to keep it lean, efficient, effective and repeatable.
• Manages a consistent, repeatable set of project artifacts (including mock-ups, prototypes, wireframes, journey maps, task flows, site maps, personae, and presentation materials), evolving them in sync across the experience design practice as our business changes and grows
Building a world-class UXDesign team
• Manages, hires and develops a high-performing team with appropriate skills. Motivates and engages team members to achieve peak performance and high job satisfaction.
• Leads and inspires UXDesigners across multiple practice areas (including user research, experience architecture, visual & interaction design, content strategy/copywriting, and prototyping/front-end dev). Includes actively leading one or more communities of practice.
• Formally mentors UXDesign team members who show potential for team leadership or principal roles in their practice area
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience
• 12 or more years of user experience or related field
• Seven or more years in leadership roles in user experience
Preferred Skills/Experience
• Experience in designing and delivering a customer-centric website
• Experience in leveraging external user experience partners
• Working knowledge of content management system and test and learn tools enabling dynamic content and test and learn capabilities
• Knowledge of end to end user experience design and implementation process from customer research to technology delivery and testing
• Strong leadership skills
• Strong management skills
• Organizational savvy and ability to create strong partnerships with technology and product groups
