Responsibilities
Position Summary:
The incumbent for this role will serve as the senior leader and change agent for the management, administration and coordination of all Mortgage Servicing operations of the bank’s $19 billion consumer mortgage portfolio. Organizationally, all mortgage related functions in the areas of Loan Operations, Collections, Default, REO, Investor/Agency Reporting and Mortgage Customer Experience will be under the purview of Mortgage Loan Servicing. The position will be a direct report to the Head of Mortgage Banking.
Principal Management and Oversight Responsibilities:
The position will direct all Mortgage Loan Servicing within the bank and will have responsibility for the daily supervision of all activities working cohesively with key business partners from across the organization to develop and implement tactical objectives which promote enterprise strategy. Responsibilities include oversight of Default Servicing, Vendor Management, Mortgage Servicing Governance, Investor Accounting and Reporting, and CRA. The Director also represents the position of BBVA Compass and its mortgage servicing business across the industry. Specific functional areas where the incumbent’s leadership and direction will be essential for line of business success are as follows:
Strategy
Set an innovative line of business direction based on a thorough understanding of the mortgage servicing industry while balancing intermediate and long term objectives with short term operational needs.
Operations
Develop a nimble and efficient loan servicing and investor reporting production platform which leverages recognized continuous improvement methodology supported by an integrated data driven decision making business culture.
Risk
Build an appropriate control environment with inherent redundancy which is designed to expand business intelligence and more visibly disseminate critical portfolio and production metrics so that key operational risk considerations can be proactively monitored and managed.
Finance
Manage the areas P&L, actively collaborate with Corporate Finance on developing annual budget needs, revenue and expense forecasts, plan to actual variance analyses, etc. Develop production capacity modeling to define appropriate gearing rations for FTE allocation and other critical non-interest expense categories (e.g. vendor costs for subservicing, REO sales, etc.).
Regulatory Compliance
Institute a culture for compliance across the Mortgage Loan Servicing organization; managing line of business goals and objectives to ensure that they are strategically in line with both Federal and State level regulator
expectations. Develop and sustain strong working relationships with Legal and Compliance partners to help safeguard that all loan lifecycle operations and investor reporting functions are managed in compliance with the rapidly changing regulator demands being placed upon mortgage lender servicers.
Group Culture
Promote transparency and objectivity across all areas of the Mortgage Servicing team. Create an environment which facilitates open communication and idea sharing from all levels within the group hierarchy so that employees can be empowered to own rather than simply perform functional responsibilities. Work to build a more service minded attitude toward the mortgage servicing line of business recognizing where loan servicing functional ownership needs to start and stop.
Human Resources
Work to cultivate strong managerial leadership and functional level expertise throughout the organization. Partner with Talent Partner to provide appropriate training and career growth opportunities to employees. Develop tangible career path options for employees to encourage professional development and enhance cross training ability within and external to the line of business.
Qualifications
Required Skills and Qualifications:
• 10+ years of commensurate management experience in banking and financial services with particular emphasis in mortgage operations and loan servicing.
• Extensive working knowledge of the operational functions which define the cradle to grave loan lifecycle. Specifically, Loan Set-up, Payment Posting, Taxes, Hazard Insurance, MI Insurance (Government & Conventional), Collections, Loss Mitigation, Bankruptcy, Foreclosure, REO, Charge-Off, Recovery, Research, Customer Service, Secondary Marketing, Investor Reporting, Payoff, and Release / Reconveyance
• Compliance directed and risk focused mindset with a strong knowledge of mortgage related regulation (i.e. Flood, HMDA, HUD, CIP, RESPA, TIL, etc.) and the rapidly changing regulatory environment.
• Highly effective visionary and innovative change management leadership experience with a demonstrated dynamic approach to project management and problem solving
• Capacity to comfortably interface and influence effectively at all levels within a complex matrix organization
• Data driven decision maker who actively endorses a quantitative approach to managing quality, production, and operational efficiency.
• Strong communication skills and abiity to partner with other functional units.
