The Commercial Lines Operations Manager provides leadership and supervision to the service and support operations within the Commercial Lines department, ensuring the retention and development of quality employees. Responsibilities include ensuring the processes, procedures, training and allocation of resources are available and provided to all department employees. The Commercial Lines Operations Manager ensures that departmental objectives are in alignment with overall business strategies and objectives. Initially, this role will include management of a service team in Duluth. With proficiency in roles, additional colleague management responsibilities may be assigned.

Essential Functions:
MANAGEMENT OF NON-SALES STAFF:
• Monitor employee workload and capacity.
• Effectively hire non-sales staff. Train, develop, and provide ongoing feedback to colleagues. Conduct annual performance reviews.
• Ensure compliance with corporate programs and policies, including PTO, attendance, learning org, and travel and expense reimbursement.
• Regular communications with employees, including one on ones and department meetings.
• If located in Minneapolis, travel to the Duluth office on average of twice per month.
MANAGE DEPARTMENTAL OPERATIONS
• Develop strategies, action plans and budgets for department in alignment with organizational objectives.
• Work closely with other departmental managers to regularly review current products, processes, services and procedures to create an environment emphasizing continual improvement.
• Facilitate team meetings. Foster knowledge sharing among employees to address issues surrounding workflow, markets, products, legislative issues and best practices.
• Act as a liaison between other teams and departments/offices to promote strong communication and problem solving as situations arise. Participate in the Operations Management meetings.
• Stay informed regarding technical knowledge, market trends, company information and other operating techniques and pass along information as necessary.
MAINTAIN RELATIONSHIPS WITH INSURANCE CARRIERS:
• Participate in annual partner carrier planning sessions.
• Conduct and participate in quarterly update meetings to ensure proper activities are being performed to meet annual goals.
• Represent agency on company councils and advisory groups.
• Notify Director of Commercial Lines of any company known to be in financial trouble so that we can notify policyholders of the company’s status if necessary.
• Keep team informed of carrier personnel changes.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES NECESSARY TO SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE ROLE
• Serve as backup for service teams during leaves of absence.
• Any other duties that may be assigned.

Qualifications: 7-8 years insurance experience preferred, as is demonstrated leadership ability. Property/Casualty insurance license or ability to obtain is required. Bachelor’s degree in related field required. Must be detailed with excellent organizational and time management skills. Good interpersonal skills and high sense of urgency. Excellent written and verbal communication (public speaking is required). Ability to effectively build and maintain positive working relationships with management and peers. CIC or equivalent preferred.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
• Office environment
• Significant use of computer applications and ability to communicate with colleagues.
• Monthly travel may be required, consisting primarily of day trips to outstate locations.
• Extended work hours required on occasion.
