Director, Communications
Overview
The Communications team is focused on driving programs and activities that build, support and defend Mastercard’s reputation among key external and internal audiences. The team has been designed to closely mirror the business and support the company’s efforts in delivering world-class solutions. New services are helping the company to grow at a rapid pace and break ground in areas such as digital identity, AI, analytics, business experimentation and cyber security.
The Director, Communications reports to the VP, Communications for services and will work across services initiatives at the global level, including security, business experimentation and loyalty. She/he will closely coordinate the implementation of global communications activities with the regional teams as well as key security stakeholders across communications and within the global product team. The role is based in the company’s Purchase, NY, global headquarters.
Role
The Communications Director is a key contributor to the holistic communications activities in support of the services business. The role covers the following areas:
• Creative storytelling – turning product developments, business wins, thought leadership and key industry trends into stories that resonate with media as well as internal audiences
• Media relations – establishing, building and maintaining relationships with journalists
• 360-degree campaign development – building multi-pronged campaigns that leverage social and digital channels in addition to more traditional channels
• Thought leadership – creating compelling research-based insights, reports and narratives in partnership with internal and external research partners to generate conversations and coverage; this includes the Global Destination Cities Index platform
• Internal communications – leveraging internal channels to generate internal awareness and enthusiasm around key services initiatives
• Product team engagement – managing key relationships with product teams to gain a deep understanding of solutions and tell compelling product stories that move the needle with target audiences
• Leadership – collaboration across teams and functions as a critical team player; helping guide junior team members in the ideation and execution of communications activities
All About You
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record creating, managing and executing communications campaigns.
• A strategic thinker. Will work with senior management, communications leadership and teams across the business to convert management imperatives into storylines and engagement programs.
• Savvy and thoughtful practitioner. Needs to be able to adeptly counsel senior leaders and work across the Mastercard family to execute against goals.
• A creative executor. Have the ability to find interesting ways to bring Mastercard’s services initiatives to life—encouraging interest and enthusiasm.
• Strong communicator and writer. Be able to distill complex topics, turn our company stories into interesting narratives and our product profiles into easy to communicate messaging.
• Highly energetic, positive and partnership oriented. Being a strong collaborator is a prerequisite.
• Capable program manager. Have the ability to manage multiple programs from conceptualization to execution in an ongoing manner.
