Section 1: Position Summary
Provide oversight for the Government Savings segment’s financial reporting process including the coordination of the segment’s month end close process and reporting of results versus Plan. The function will also support the reporting requirements of the Broker/Dealer legal entity. Ensure reporting supports the consolidated Ascensus financial reporting process and is in compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements. The position will report directly to the Vice President, Accounting and will work closely with the Corporate Controller, Tax Director and the Financial Planning and Analysis, and Compliance and Relationship Management teams among others within the Government Savings segment.
Section 2: Job Functions, Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Manage the monthly financial close for Ascensus’ Government Savings (AGS) segment including overseeing the activities of the accountant responsible for AGS accounting and reporting. Ensure compliance with internal control requirements.
• Prepare monthly analysis of revenue and expenses and meet with Financial Planning and Analysis (FPA) to review monthly analytics.
• Own the integrity of the segment’s balance sheet. Oversee the preparation of balance sheet reconciliations, perform account fluctuation analyses and investigate account variances.
• Review customer contracts to determine the appropriate accounting treatment in accordance with US GAAP including but not limited to revenue recognition and contractual commitments.
• Coordinate with Government Savings FPA team, Compliance Group, Relationship Managers (RMs) and other key leadership groups to ensure contractual commitments and reporting requirements for the segment and its Broker/Dealer are met. Lead monthly call with RMs to update accounting for contract changes.
• Prepare/review technical accounting memorandum to support accounting issues relevant to AGS and ABDS.
• Prepare monthly Focus Reports for Broker/Dealer (ABDS) in support of Net Capital requirements reporting for FINRA. Provide support for FINRA requests and examinations and to internal FINOP for review.
• Prepare/review internal control narratives over key processes.
• Ownership of all AGS and ABDS external audit requirements, maintenance of Sarbanes-Oxley compliance reporting and documentation.
• Complete special projects for management and other financial functions within the department as required.
• Responsible for protecting, securing, and proper handling of all confidential data held by Ascensus to ensure against unauthorized access, improper transmission, and/or unapproved disclosure of information that could result in harm to Ascensus or our clients.

Supervision
• Support the professional development of members of the accounting team.
Section 3: Experience, Skills, Knowledge Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
• Public accounting experience and CPA required.
• 7 – 10 years of accounting experience.
• Highly analytical and detail oriented with strong aptitude for problem solving.
• Independent and possesses excellent communications and organizational skills.
• Ability to streamline and improve accounting processes.
• Ability to work cross-functionally with various departments throughout the finance organization and business.
• Oracle general ledger experience a plus but not required.
• Prior financial services industry experience a plus.
• Limited travel to Newton, Massachusetts where AGS business operations are located.
