Role Value Proposition:
MetLife is seeking to hire a quantitative Associate Director, Portfolio Risk Analyst. Reporting to the Head of the recently formed Portfolio Analytics and Risk team, the incumbent will be responsible for developing, generating and assessing portfolio analytics and risk reports for MetLife’s General Account portfolios and all third party insurance client portfolios. The Associate Director, Portfolio Risk Analyst will participate in regular dialogue with Portfolio Managers, Asset Sector Heads, the Investment Risk Committee and MetLife’s Corporate Risk Management team.
The Portfolio Analytics and Risk team was formed in early 2018 to provide effective oversight of the portfolio risks taken by MetLife Investment Management (“MIM”) for its institutional clients. The objective is to oversee client portfolios to ensure positioning is consistent with MIM's investment views and strategies, client's intended risk/return profile and prudent risk management practices. The scope will include all material risks such as interest rate risk, sector risk, credit risk, structural risk, country and currency risk and liquidity risk. While Portfolio Managers are responsible for the day-to-day investment decisions and portfolio positioning, the team will provide analytical support, oversight and appropriate challenge to portfolios that are out of alignment with MIM views and portfolio guidelines.
In addition to managing MetLife’s General Account assets, MIM has a growing business managing third party client funds. While we currently manage a number of insurance client portfolios within a single asset class, we also have a large, diversified multi-asset class insurance client and are seeking to grow this business. The Associate Director, Portfolio Risk Analyst will have an important role in building out the risk reporting framework in support of our strategic objectives, and providing ongoing analysis, oversight and challenge to Portfolio Managers.
Key Responsibilities:
• Build out a report suite to enable the assessment of portfolio risks from a variety of perspectives, for both diversified multi-asset class portfolios and asset-class specific sleeves and portfolios, using analytics from BlackRock and MetLife proprietary data and models.
• Participate in regular meetings with Market Strategies, Research, Portfolio Managers and trading desks to understand investment views and strategies; Review reports to understand sources of portfolio risks and prospective performance.
• Work with Portfolio Managers to ensure that portfolio positioning accurately reflects MIM’s views.
• Assess portfolio risk versus benchmarks and/or client guidelines, and highlight significant deviations to Portfolio Managers and Unit Head.
• Perform scenario analysis to understand portfolio impacts resulting from topical themes or concerns; Review actual performance against expected performance, and recalibrate models as needed.
• Generate reports with commentary for senior management review.
Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:
Required:
• 5+ years of experience in a quantitative financial capacity, such as data analytics, risk management, investment research or portfolio management
• Knowledge of, and strong interest in, financial markets and risk management
