To support Vanguard’s thought leadership development and corporate-level communication initiatives, by interfacing with senior thought leaders and marketing contacts to establish, manage and implement enterprise-wide positioning for key strategic topics and market/economic and regulatory communications; innovate on the development of published research; and ensure strategic planning for published research globally.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
• Manages the development and implementation of positioning on key enterprise-wide topics and thought leadership initiatives to support business goals and continually build the Vanguard brand. Works across departments and divisions, demonstrates a collaborative, inclusive style. Embraces diversity of thought, background and experience in driving towards optimal communication solutions.
• Builds strategic relationships across divisions and sites. Interfaces with relevant SMEs in Vanguard’s thought leadership departments (e.g., ISG, CIR, Gov’t Relations, Corp Governance, PRD, PR) and Marketing Leadership to develop comprehensive messaging in support of enterprise-wide positioning and partners with key constituencies (e.g., Marketing Strategists, global business partners) to ensure distribution and use.
• Develops and implements communications for Vanguard at an enterprise-wide level on assigned topics of which relate to market and economic (MEO) news, regulatory changes and strategic priorities set forth by Senior Leadership. Partners with key stakeholders and marketing to ensure relevant, timely and consistent core messaging.
• Provides direction to cross-functional teams on the development of Vanguard published research and collaborates with writers, designers, and editors in the creation of innovative packaging solutions across various communication channels and mediums. Demonstrates initiative and creativity in establishing strategic campaigns and recommending solutions.
• Executes on business plans and achieves strong results. Advocates for and guides marketing and communications teams on positioning strategies, Vanguard research and MEO/regulatory communications. Is viewed as a communication leader and sought after for guidance and advice in relation to assigned topics. Assumes accountability for outcomes.
• Proactively engages with thought leaders and Marketing across the globe to support corporate-level strategic planning for Vanguard research. Partners with key constituencies to gather, consolidate, and prioritize needs. Proactively identifies opportunities to strategically leverage and develop content on topics to support key business goals.
• Works with reporting groups to measure and analyze communication plans and collateral impacts to determine progress against stated goals. Tests and learns from new approaches. Participates in and actively supports Vanguard Unmatchable Excellence initiatives.
• Develops and maintains broad knowledge of competitive offerings, market trends, and industry developments. Consults internally to convey findings and make recommendations.
• Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
The Ideal Candidate Should Possess:
• Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience. Marketing or Communications experience preferred.
• Minimum of five years of progressive responsibilities and related experience including directing the work of others.
• Knowledge of Vanguard’s global businesses and strong ability to connect the underpinnings of Vanguard research to those businesses.
• Solid project management skills and ability to work across multiple functions. Experience in managing and delivering cross-departmental projects.
• Excellent interpersonal, communications, and presentation skills.
• Professional presence and ability to develop strong working relationship with senior executives.
• Knowledge of Vanguard’s global businesses and ability to connect the underpinnings of Vanguard research to those businesses.
• Possesses strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills. Maximizes personal impact.
• Demonstrates flexibility and independent thinking; deals well with ambiguity.
• Solid understanding of the investment and financial services industry.
• Demonstrated self-starter. Strong learning skills.
