Transfer Pricing Managing Director
POSITION SUMMARY:

Grant Thornton’s responsive, partner-led Tax service teams help dynamic companies navigate complexity and grow with insightful, practical tax advice. In addition to tax professionals in our offices across the United States, our Washington National Tax Office provides deep technical knowledge and responsive support in local, state, federal and international tax. Our tax services include: compliance, human capital services, federal tax services, international tax services, state and local tax services, private wealth services, tax reporting and advisory, partnership taxation, not-for-profit tax, and mergers & acquisition tax services.
The Transfer Pricing Managing Director is a member of the International Tax executive team and leads, manages, and builds the Transfer Pricing team on a national basis. The Transfer Pricing Managing Director has the opportunity to create the practice and attract a team of senior managers and managers to meet the business opportunity. The TP MD delivers a full range of tax and transfer pricing services for multiple clients in a wide variety of industries. Responsibilities include interacting closely with clients to provide innovative tax and transfer pricing planning and consulting; developing and managing staff; working closely with partners and staff on client management, practice development, and business development activities; and formulating and delivering innovative tax and transfer pricing planning and tax savings strategies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Create a three-year business plan for the Transfer Pricing Practice to define aggressive growth plan in keeping with the overall ITS Practice strategy.
• Coach, counsel and retain existing team staff, while attracting and recruiting critical new team members.
• Achieve substantial growth in the Transfer Pricing Practice.
• Work with Grant Thornton Transfer Pricing leaders in Europe and Asia to build and grow the practice on a global level.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with business owners and CEO’s of current and potential clients.
• Oversee the efforts of multiple client services teams on client engagements; plan, execute, direct, and complete tax and transfer pricing projects in a wide variety of industries; provide innovative tax and transfer pricing planning, consulting, and compliance expertise to clients; market, design, and implement tax-planning strategies for clients and manager to budget.
• Understand and manage firm risk on tax and transfer pricing services and proposals.
• Effectively manage existing client relationships to enhance client satisfaction.
• Identify and capitalize on opportunities to sell tax services to existing and potential clients and manage the fundamentals (i.e., realization, utilization, leverage, accounts receivable, expenses) and create marketing plans and materials for the practice.
• Develop a practice vision and set challenging personal and client service team goals.
• Effectively manage the fundamentals (i.e., realization, utilization, leverage, accounts receivable, expenses).
• Successfully integrate industry initiatives with local office strategy.
• Provide technical expertise in the areas of international taxation, regulations, market practices, trends, economic factors, and risk.
• Report to Managing Partner, International Tax Services.
• Adhere to the highest degree of professional standards and strict client confidentiality.
• Attend professional development and training sessions on a regular basis.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a Master’s in Accounting, Economics, Finance, Statistics or related field.
• CPA, PhD, JD, or LLM in Taxation.
• 10+ years of international tax and transfer pricing experience in public accounting or a combination of corporate, legal or public accounting experience, consulting or academia. Client service background.
• Demonstrated success in a leadership role and a track record developing a practice and building new business with domestic multinational corporate clients.
• Superior analytical, technical, and tax accounting experience in engagements such as cost-sharing for multinational corporations, audit defense, supply chain management re-engineering, APAs and documentation studies.
• Thought leadership demonstrated through published works or speaking engagements.
• Outstanding experience in staff and transfer pricing project management in an integrated client service team.
• Exceptional client service and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain outstanding client relationships.
• Hands-on, advanced experience using tax technology.
• Ability to manage multiple engagements and competing priorities.
• Ability to work across the firm’s internal constituency.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and project management skills.
• Strong communication skills and interpersonal skills.
• A business driver who sees unlimited opportunity.
