Position Summary:
Kemper is seeking a Director, Strategy and Executive Operations to work at our office in downtown Chicago. This role reports directly to the CEO, and assists the CEO and the executive leadership team in the development, communication, and execution of the organization’s strategic initiatives. The Director of Strategy and Executive Operations serves as a liaison responsible for assisting in the development of reports and updates for the Board of Directors and other key stakeholders/partners. The role involves a strong financial focus and the Director will gain key experience by creating spreadsheets and models and doing analysis related to the business. Some travel is required.
The Director of Strategy and Executive Operations is a critically important role, enabling the CEO and executive team to work most effectively with internal and external stakeholders in fulfillment of commitments. This role is a working leader, responsible for ensuring that execution of the strategy supports the strategy elements. The Director is expected to display a high degree of creativity and latitude in working with the executive leaders. As the CEO’s trusted partner, the role requires a highly resourceful individual with a strong business background and must display emotional intelligence, be a creative thinker, and an influential collaborator, with exceptional analytical skills. The Director of Strategy and Executive Operations will align strategic priorities with the executive leadership team, and lead the internal and external communications to ensure overall efficient operations.
Position Responsibilities:
Works with the CEO and executive leadership team to align actions and communications in support of agreed strategy and initiatives by:
• Facilitating and driving strategic initiatives through inception stage
• Creating a roadmap on how to translate strategies into actionable and quantitative plans
• Drives decisions that will impact both short and long-term improvement using both quantitative and qualitative analysis
• Establishes and reviews key strategic priorities and develops them into a comprehensive plan
• Prioritizing and monitoring progress on the execution of the strategic plan
• Ensuring business/functional strategic planning goals and initiatives reflect organizations strategic priorities
• Provides key information and analysis to ensure alignment with the overall business strategy
• Establishes sustainable, reliable operating cadence to the organization and Board of Directors
• Coordinates strategic meetings, documentation and deliverables. Sets pace for meeting key timelines, manages expectations and ensures all collateral ready for review
• Acting as a liaison across organization to increase broad awareness and alignment for the strategic plans
Position Qualifications:
• College Degree/MBA required, or commensurate business experience
• 5-7 years in a leadership role and/or Program Management
• Advanced Excel experience
• Experience managing large or complex projects in the insurance industry
• Strong financial acumen required
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Solid analytics and modeling skills
• Program and Project Management
• Strong business and financial acumen and analytical skills
• Strong influential and collaboration skills
• Ability to make decisions and problem solve
