Description
The Vice President, Corporate Banking, Financial Institutions Group is a key player in managing and growing a portfolio comprised of companies operating within the consumer finance and financial technology industries.
Corporate Banking is responsible for the marketing, management, and monitoring of the Bank's corporate loan portfolio, and also supports the credit requirements and cross selling efforts for other businesses including derivatives, foreign exchange, cash management, and trade finance.
Corporate Banking is an integral part of BMO Capital Markets’ Investment and Corporate Banking group, which offers corporate, institutional, and government clients a complete range of financial services, including lending, equity and debt capital raising, structured finance, M&A, treasury and market risk management services, research, and institutional investing.
Responsibilities
Business Development & Client Relationship Management
• Operate as key member of the deal team and lead preparation of lending proposals and pitches to prospective clients.
• Identify and recommend related ancillary investment and corporate banking products for existing clients.
• Actively manage portfolio to maximize return and credit quality.
• Monitor client, industry, and regulatory agencies for potential changes that may affect client’s portfolio and business needs.
• Negotiate transactions with clients, including interfacing with the Bank’s credit department and internal / external legal representatives.
Financial Modeling & Analysis
• Oversee preparation of concise, well-reasoned credit correspondence in response to new credit facilities and extensions and/or amendments to existing credit facilities.
• Complete annual and interim credit reviews that include industry and financial analysis comprised of operating performance, cash flow, leverage, coverage and liquidity, as well as capital-at-risk and other regulatory capital calculations.
• Monitor the performance of portfolio companies against credit terms and conditions.
• Create and update financial models for use in analyzing client cash flow projections as business needs and industry requirements dictate.
Partnership Efforts
• Lead deal teams to develop, present, and win mandates for new corporate banking opportunities.
• Effectively manage work flow of analysts and associates in support of client objectives.
• Coach and mentor individuals in junior positions on the deal team.
• Prepare relationship profitability assessments that involve liaising with other product and industry groups within BMO Capital Markets.
Qualifications
Knowledge
• 6-9 years of banking or credit risk management experience.
• Completion of a formal bank credit training program and prior lending authority.
• An undergraduate degree with academic coursework in finance, economics, or accounting and outstanding academic achievement.
• MBA, CFA, or professional accounting designation preferred.
Skills
• Deep understanding of corporate lending and portfolio management policies and objectives.
• Thorough knowledge of capital markets and investment banking products.
• Strong credit analysis and financial modeling skills.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to service multiple clients and time-sensitive requests in an effective manner.
• Exercise independent thought and judgment and adapt to new tasks with little notice.
• Motivated, fast learning, and able to work with limited supervision.
• Outgoing and personable, a team player able to work effectively in small groups.
• Highly proficient in Word/Excel/PowerPoint.
