Profile Summary
The successful Senior Financial Reporting Lead will lead activities related to the GAAP and SEC reporting function for Voya Financial, Inc. and its subsidiaries. This position will also lead and/or assist with other projects and financial reporting-related initiatives, including process improvement initiatives and implementation of reporting tools.
Profile Responsibilities
• Review and analyze disclosures included in SEC filings and other regulatory filings for Voya Financial, Inc. and its subsidiaries.
• Interact, communicate and maintain liaison with other functional departments to ensure the quality, accuracy and completeness of the financial reporting disclosures included in Forms 10-Q and Form 10-K and other US GAAP financial statements.
• Review analytical reports and utilize various analytical skills and procedures to assist with the understanding and validation of financial statements and disclosures.
• Coordinate, conduct, document and review workpapers of financial reporting activities in accordance of company policies, procedures and controls.
• Manage, coordinate and lead the planning activities of the Financial reporting cycle to ensure the timeliness delivery of financial information and reports.
• Interact with internal and external auditors as needed.
• Recommend process improvements and participate/lead problem solving sessions and provides functional advice and training to other analysts.
• Manage, lead and assist in various projects as assigned including the participation in the continuous improvement initiatives related to financial reporting including the implementation of new or expanding the usage of certain existing financial reporting tools and other improvement initiatives.
• Participate and research SEC and GAAP guidance including performing/leading the peer research for various disclosures as necessary.
• Review, research, interpretation and implementation of SEC filing requirements.
• Lead other ad-hoc projects as a key team member that meet the ultimate objectives of the team, department and organization.
Knowledge & Skills
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting; CPA or CPA track required
• Total of 6 to 10 years of experience, including public accounting, insurance accounting or SEC reporting environment; understanding of US GAAP and competent in preparing financial statement disclosures; financial analysis experience helpful
• Establishes, modifies, documents, and implements reporting methods and control procedures
• Shares technical expertise with others; recommends process improvements; provides functional advice or training to less experienced financial analysts
• Leads other analysts in performing advanced problem solving and complex analysis
• Requires strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize various projects under their direction in order to meet reporting deadlines
• Strong interpersonal skills to effectively work with other departments; ability to communicate with higher levels of the organization
• Must be able to effectively and clearly communicate issues, gain consensus and closure, meet deadlines and influence others
• A self-starter, self-motivated, self-disciplined and performance driven; ability to work perform tasks with little direction
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• XBRL tagging experience beneficial
• PC Skills, including advanced Microsoft Excel required; PeopleSoft and/or ledger system experience a plus; Wdesk(WebFilings) and Hyperion skills beneficia
