The Associate, Private Debt & Equity professional provides support to the investment process by assisting with preparation and analysis of due diligence information. Works alongside senior deal team members to coordinate due diligence, financial analysis and research for new private debt and equity investments. Assists in the preparation of approval memos, financial models and monitoring existing portfolio investments.
Responsibilities
• Assists with primary due diligence and research
• Assists in the underwriting process including helping to formulate the investment thesis and the identification of key risks for new investment opportunities
• Assists in the preparation and completion of approval memos and financial models
• Assists with recurring investment monitoring activities including analysis and reports for assigned investments by utilizing available systems and resources
• Assists in managing the funding process and ongoing data management; helps to resolve any trade operations issues
• Utilizes systems and resources to synthesize data and content for management reports
• Assists with research projects
• Assists in covering assigned general partner relationships
Requirements
Education and Experience
Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in Economics/Finance related field
• 2 to 5 years relevant investment related work experience
Preferred:
• 2-3 years corporate lending experience with a commercial bank
• 2-3 years alternative investment experience
• 2-3 years audit or accounting experience with a CPA firm
• 2-3 years investment banking, private equity or mezzanine fund experience
• 2-3 years corporate credit experience with an insurance company or other asset manager
• MBA, ASA or FSA
• CFA or significant progress towards
Skills and Abilities
• Understanding of investment/market concepts including but not limited to relative value, asset liability management, investment valuation
• Knowledge of leveraged financed market including, private equity and the middle market lending environment
• Presentation skills to advance investment decisions and strategy discussions
• Oral and written communication skills demonstrating ability to share and convey knowledge
• Good investigative, analytical and problem solving skills
• Good customer relationship management skills
• Negotiation skills to assist with internal/external discussions
• Advanced Microsoft Office skills
• Ability to set goals and handle multiple tasks, clients, and projects simultaneously
• Ability to work well within a team environment and participate in department/team projects
• Ability to liaise with individuals across a wide variety of operational, functional, and technical disciplines
