Description
The Corporate Accounting Policy function is primarily charged with:
a) Ensuring that Prudential’s accounting policies are both documented and compliant with US GAAP.
b) Tracking FASB projects as well as proposed and final standards. Coordinating lobbying activities with standard setters (FASB, SEC) including writing comment letters as needed.
c) Providing training opportunities to Finance associates on technical accounting matters.
d) Proactively partnering with business units to identify and resolve US GAAP accounting issues on new significant transactions.
Candidates for the open position will be responsible for addressing technical questions that impact the Asset Management business of Prudential (these primarily relate to consolidation and revenue recognition). In addition, candidates will be responsible for producing summaries of technical accounting matters to the finance community and senior management.
More specifically the Director will have responsibility for the following:
• Research, resolve and document accounting policy issues
• Facilitate the quarterly “Emerging Policy Update” provided to the Finance Community
• Produce quarterly summaries of new and pending guidance to Senior Management.
• Coordinate the production of the Accounting Policy newsletter.
• Assist with the maintenance of SOX controls. Serve as “point” person for audit inquiries and SOX walkthroughs.
• Support CAP VPs as needed regarding implementation of new accounting standards.
• Interact with external auditors
Qualifications
• College degree in accounting. MBA is a plus.
• CPA or foreign equivalent strongly preferred. Big Four experience is a plus.
• Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to explain complicated technical matters to non-subject matter experts.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with others (i.e must be a team player).
• Good understanding of investments and asset management arrangements (funds and CLOs) .
• Familiarity with accounting rules related to financial instruments (balance sheet presentation, income recognition, sale accounting and impairment), embedded derivatives and structured transactions.
• Experience resolving and documenting technical issues related to consolidations (both voting and variable interest models).
• Minimum of 7-10 years of relevant experience
• Strong analytical, project management and organizational skills
• Ability to work on multiple projects under tight time constraints
• Knowledge of Statutory Insurance Accounting is a plus
