Job Description:
The project accountant will manage the overall project accounting process across the assigned geography/project. Collaborate with client and account personnel to develop and implement processes, controls, and reporting to assure superior delivery of accounting services in support of occupancy and infrastructure projects. Candidates must have a strong finance, accounting, and systems background. This role will require close collaboration with Field Operations, Project Management and Finance.
Essential Job Duties:
• Partner with clients and account personnel to develop the project scope, justification, estimates, funding requests, contractual agreements, building specifications, project deliverables and budget plans. Ensure project deliverables and budgets support business and company objectives. Aggressively control change orders to project schedule or budget
• Act as the primary liaison for project accounting to all client representatives and account team members involved with the project.
• Provide professional project accounting support for all projects within the portfolio.
• Formulate and implement standardized and repeatable project accounting processes and procedures across all geographies, ensuring that all project support Newmark Knight Frank as well as the Client’s commitments accurate financials and proper controls.
• Track status of approved projects and maintain financial records for all projects.
• Perform financial and general accounting functions including: project accounting & budgeting, project cost/commitment analysis/reporting and support to management.
• Direct the continuous development of project management business line tools, communication methods and means, and periodic reporting.
• Collaborate with Management, the Senior Project Manager and the Project Administrator on development and documentation of the Project Delivery Process and Procedures including: project approval, setup, execution and closeout.
• Recommend and implement agreed process improvements to the project delivery and accounting processes.
• Review, document & manage the process for preparing and issuing client invoices for project fees. Report quarterly on invoice statuses for fee eligible projects.
• Support both internal and external audits.
• Provide accounting and financial support to management and client, including monthly project financial reports and account analyses.
• Provide adhoc reports for internal and external customers as requested.
• Serve as system and toolset subject matter expert for the Project Management Team and Field Operations.
• Review all purchase orders, change orders and applications for payment to ensure compliance with key control objectives and risk mitigation measures.
• Effectively communicate with Field Operations regarding project accounting procedures, reporting deadlines, project and invoice approval requirements.
• Assist with preparation of project close-out package including: acceptance letters, invoices and backup for all fee eligible projects.
• Maintain financial folders for all projects, with all the appropriate documents, including: capital authorization requests, purchase orders and invoices.
• Effectively communicate with Client’s capital finance, procurement and accounts payable organizations to ensure Client’s procedures are followed and requirements are met.
• Provide support for year-end capital accrual process, which may include research and reconcilement.
• Employ problem-solving skills and analysis, and report problems to Management, as necessary.
• Complete special projects as needed.
• May perform other duties as assigned.
Skills, Education and Experience:
• Two years minimum of experience specifically in project accounting.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business
• Proficiency with SharePoint.
• Knowledge of SAP Software or other enterprise accounting platform.
