Job Description
The Learning & Development Director manages and directs all technical learning & development activities and resources for claims and its stakeholders. The role partners with Senior Leadership to establish and define educational needs, processes and initiatives. The Director leads the design and development of education strategies to help achieve claims business goals and Allstate corporate goals, drawing upon adult learning expertise and knowledge of the business. The claims Learning & Development Director manages claims’ Learning & Development team (business partners, instructional designers & developers, learning measurement, facilitators, and centralized training functions), outside vendors, e-learning and virtual platformsfor maximum efficiency and effectiveness. The Directorestablishes and evaluates metrics for assessing education effectiveness. Additionally, the Director leads the Knowledge Management and Claims Communications teams. The Director is responsible for providing world class tools to ensure employees have necessary information available on demand. Communications ensures the organization is aligned on our strategic priorities and creates culture and engagement through formal and informal communication methods levering technology to maximize effectiveness. Key Responsibilities Strategy and Execution With knowledge of the goals of Claims organization, responsible for setting educational vision for the Claims enterprise, executing on that vision, measuring and reporting educational effectiveness Provides strategic guidance and direction on learning, development programs, processes, and initiatives to support changing business tactics Establishes and tracks plan staff and department performance Creates and drives the learning and development strategy for the Claims organization Develops cost/benefit analysis for key learning projects and effectively manages learning budget Develops communication strategies to support new plans, programs or processes Collaborates within and outside of Claims Ensures effective delivery of course materials through a variety of mediums such as instructor led training, web conferences, teleconferences, live meetings and videoconferences. Manages learning technology vendors, including research, identification, contract negotiation and execution Leadership Creates a vision for a team and aligns the team to that vision Interprets broad goals and objectives into team priorities and activities Coaches, mentors and influences others to accomplish departmental goals Actively assesses, monitors, and develops staff competencies and bench strength for department Promotes and fosters an inclusive and engaging environment for employees Represents Allstate on panels, in outside venues or forums
Job Qualifications
Dynamic leadership and relationship skills. Highly collaborative with proven ability to build rapport and credibility quickly with all levels of the organization and work across matrixed organizations. Ability to strive in an evolving, fluid, entrepreneurial environment and be cultural change agent, driving innovation and urgency, both internal to claims and across the Allstate enterprise Knowledge of Allstate’s organization structure; who to go to, and how to position the situation, to maximize odds of achieving claims’ desired outcome Represents Claims Learning and Development to the broader Enterprise and collaborates with other AORs to promote consistent learning practices Experience in running large and complex operations; as well as maintaining a controlled and quality oriented environment Track record of building and cultivating great teams, attracting top talent and driving succession plans Creative thought leader, exceptional problem solving and analytical skills with proven ability to conceptualize new ideas Excellent customer focus; able to understand customer needs, think strategically and provide innovative solutions Ability to set and manage accountabilities and expectations at all levels - team members, peers, business partners and senior and executive management Proven program / project oversight capabilities Either verbally or through written presentation, can effectively distill a complex business situation in to easily understood, actionable management information 10+ years of strategic leadership in the design, development and implementation of learning solutions across multiple platforms 7+ years of experience in P&C industry Master’s degree in adult education, instructional design 10+ years of proven mid-level or senior leadership skills Excellent written, verbal skills and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interact with senior leaders and represent claims with customers and business partners Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
