Job Description
Everest Insurance, a member of the Everest Re Group, has an opportunity for a Director, Underwriting – US Property for our midtown Manhattan office. A high level of technical underwriting, communication and analytical skills are necessary to develop and manage business while achieving long term underwriting profit and growth. Note – This position could also be based out of our Boston office.
Responsibilities:
• This individual will support the East Region for US Property while building and underwriting a diverse and profitable book of business
• Develop and maintain productive working relationships with appointed brokers
• Exposure evaluation on most classes of property insurance with a concentration in catastrophic coverage
• Premium determination and negotiation with brokers
• Negotiating and placing reinsurance
• Maintain awareness of competitor capabilities and strategies, as well as the overall insurance marketplace
• Effectively work with Actuarial, Claims, Loss Control, Operations, Finance, and Information Technology
• Attending client underwriting and pre-renewal meetings
Qualifications:
• Bachelors or Master’s Degree with a minimum of 6-10 years commercial property underwriting experience
• Experience with shared/layered and ground up programs
• Self-motivated and independent while maintaining underwriting discipline to achieve strategic objectives
• Excellent communication skills and with in-depth product knowledge of property products, layered structures, and pricing methodology
• Thorough understanding, knowledge and experience with property catastrophe exposures and portfolio management
• Possess operational discipline to assure highest levels of product quality and customer service
• Established relationships in the East, Mid-Atlantic and Southeast Regions
• Have the creativity and underwriting skills to develop, implement and control pricing and a risk selection standard that supports strategic objectives and achieve desired financial goals
• Must be highly organized to balance marketing and production
• Familiarity and understanding of broker manuscript form
• Pro-active approach to a collaborative culture
