Description
Summary of Role
Provide accounting support to the Finance team responsible for the development and maintenance of accurate financial information for specific areas of the general ledger and financial statements.
Accountabilities & Responsibilities
Month end and year end close processes:
• Reconcile and analyze various trial balance accounts including, but not limited to, cash accounts, prepaid expenses, other assets, intercompany accounts and miscellaneous accruals.
• Prepare journal entries and related support.
• Resolve accounting discrepancies as appropriate.
• Perform additional month-end closing procedures.
• Assist internal and external auditors with audits.
Related Organizations
• Prepare financial statements for assigned related organizations and draft related disclosures.
• Prepare financial/management reports for assigned related organizations' management, executives and board members.
• Analyze operational data to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data, including coordination with related organizations' staff to assure satisfactory data content, quality and integrity and the receipt of desired information.
• Identify, monitor and effectively interpret and communicate critical financial information.
• Assist in the preparation of annual budgets
Monthly fixed asset procedures
• Perform asset management operations.
• Ensure addition and maintenance of assets including, but not limited to, retirements, reassignments, and cost adjustments.
• Work with the Tax department on sales & use tax, as well as property tax reporting for all locations
Subscription, Commission, and Royalty Processes:
• Execute monthly subscription auto-termination process and verify the process completes without exception.
• Conduct subscriptions fulfillment testing, including assessing, analyzing and resolving discrepancies as appropriate.
• Manage the royalty payment process; ensure correct and accurate disbursement of payments.
• Maintain royalty Access database and make changes, as needed, based on changing business and financial needs.
• Manage the state society relationships, including monthly reporting and accurate disbursement of payments.
Other:
• Actively participate in cross-functional team meetings as necessary.
• Identify, recommend and implement process changes.
• Perform testing of support systems.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
• Working experience of financial and accounting systems
• Experience in financial record keeping and applying the generally accepted accounting principles
• Familiar with financial analysis, processes, tools and techniques
• Ability to perform tasks related to budget management & forecasting
• Ability to organize and monitor projects
• Working experience with business process improvement tools and techniques
• Demonstration of strong interpersonal and communication skills, accuracy, initiative, attention to detail, and analytical problem solving
• Ability to handle multiple priorities
• Ability to solve problems and develop creative recommendations
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, with strong Excel and Word skills
Required Experience, Qualifications & Education
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in financial accounting with exposure to financial statement preparation and management reporting.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting
Preferred Experience, Qualifications & Education
• Previous experience with ERP systems, preferably Oracle
• CPA
