Explosive growth has created the need for a VMware Systems Administrator in our Houston HQ located in the Galleria. This position will report to the IT Director and will help maintain the current environment to ensure overall system readiness. Additionally, the System Administrator will be responsible for troubleshooting and resolving system issues, documenting and improving existing deployments and configurations, research and planning future solutions, and assisting with projects.
Responsibiliities
• Administration of Dell PowerEdge and Cisco UCS servers, vSphere ESXi 6.5, vCenter Server 6.5, vCenter Site Recovery Manager, vSphere VSAN, and iSCSI SANs.
• Administration of VMware virtual machines, Windows Servers, Active Directory, and some Linux servers.
• Administration of Dell Compellent and Nimble storage.
• Maintain regular backups of all servers and verify validity of those backups.
• Identify, research, troubleshoot and resolve problems with hardware, software and systems.
• Ensure technical systems and solutions are operating efficiently, according to best practices, and maintain disaster recovery readiness at all times.
• Analyze performance, predict needs and growth, plan and recommend preventative measures.
• Identify areas of improvement and bring added functionality to the environment.
• Provide a point of escalation for service desk assistance.
• Document and complete all changes in accordance with Change Management policies and procedures.
• Protect organization’s value by keeping information confidential.
• Provide emergency on-call 24x7 support.
• Participate in weekend maintenance activities, as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Some lifting up to 60lbs may be required.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in related field highly desired.
• 3 – 5 years of relevant work experience, 2 – 4 years hands-on technical experience desired.
• VMware Certified Associate (VCA) required
• VMware Certified Professional Data Center Virtualization (VCP-DCV) Certification required or must be obtained within first year.
• Advanced proficiency in VMware vSphere virtual environments is required.
• Experience with vCenter Site Recovery Manager is required.
• Experience in migrating and managing Azure or AWS Cloud environments.
• Certifications in AWS or Azure Cloud are a plus.
• PowerShell experience is required, scripting/automation experience a plus.
• Proficiency managing and maintaining iSCSI SANs a required.
• Nimble experience preferred, additional SAN experience a plus.
• Additional certifications are a plus.
• Ability to quickly and independently learn new applications and technology.
• Position requires exceptional analytical thinking and superior customer management skills.
• Good problem solving skills; ability to visualize a problem/situation and think abstractly to solve it.
• Friendly presence and helpful attitude; good interpersonal skills and ability to work well with others.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to provide support over the phone or in person while always maintaining a professional demeanor.
• Demonstrated ability to be a team player and willingness to work on multiple projects as needed.
