Position Overview
Performs financial analytic and reporting functions of the Financial Consolidation and SEC Reporting area with an emphasis on coordination, preparation, and timely reporting of accurate financial information on a US GAAP basis (or other comprehensive basis of accounting) for outside regulators (e.g. the Securities and Exchange Commission).
Responsibilities
• Performs reporting functions for the consolidated financial reporting area, which may include the following:
◦ preparation of general ledger uploads
◦ updating, reconciling and recording financial results
◦ Detail analysis, compilation and reporting of data based on US GAAP or other comprehensive basis of accounting for reporting to outside regulators, (e.g. the Securities and Exchange Commission.
• Includes preparation and analysis of the holding company section of SEC forms 10-Q/10-K as well as assigned footnotes for a variety of SEC and regulatory reports including consolidated US GAAP, stand-alone US GAAP, local IFRS and local Statutory reporting for the company’s various subsidiaries.
• Liaison with Internal Controls to document and maintain Sarbanes Oxley requirements for the Financial Consolidation and SEC Reporting team. Provides evidence of compliance as needed; may assist with year-end audit and other internal audits as needed.
• Collaborates with the consolidated financial reporting team and other functional areas to produce accurate, reliable and timely financial reporting, accounting practices and procedures.
• Assists with report development and/or updates; addresses financial reporting related questions raised by business unit, area, or function.
• Shares technical expertise with others; recommends process improvements, provides functional advice and/or training as needed.
• Coordinates communication, acts as liaison with other business units, areas and functions as needed.
• May assist in annual budget planning, process and analysis.
• Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Required:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance or equivalent related work experience
• 5-8 years accounting or auditing experience
Preferred:
• Progress towards CPA
• Progress towards FLMI
• Public accounting or SEC reporting experience
• Intermediate experience with GAAP and Statutory accounting
• Insurance/Reinsurance financial reporting experience
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Required:
• Advanced Excel and basic Word skills, working with large data sets
• Ability to perform accounting analysis and provide written explanations of actual results to plan
• Advanced knowledge of accounting/finance theory, application, financial reporting and Statutory and GAAP accounting.
• Ability to be flexible when needed, take initiative, and demonstrate accountability.
• Intermediate oral and written communication skills demonstrating ability to share and impart knowledge.
• Produce results ability to quickly adapt to new methods, work under tight deadlines and stressful conditions.
